Drunk at the Landromat

Last Saturday Chris and I went to the laundromat to do some laundry. The place we go is nice and is usually lacking any entertainment. Just what you would expect at the laundromat, people quietly going about their own laundry and minding their own business. But then there are days when you get lucky and someone walks through those doors and you just know your in for a fun night.

They first walked in around 6:30 pm. I was over by the dryers and they walked to the washing machines on the other side of the room. She was talking really loud and at first I thought she was handicapped. I do not mean that in a mean way at all. It was just how she was talking and the way she was saying some of her words. It was until Chris and I were folding laundry and she walked by us that we could smell the alcohol on her like a bad perfume. It was like she bathed in a tub of beer before she left. It was gross.

We couldn't help but laugh to ourselves as she was trying to put quarters in the dryers. Every two seconds she was asking the guy she was with "IS THIS OURS?" he would reply with a "no" and she would follow it up with "ARE YOU SURE, BECAUSE IF YOUR WRONG...." Then she could not figure out how to put the quarters in. You know how there is a slot for the coins and then the slot at the bottom that is for return. Well she kept asking him OVER AND OVER "WHICH ONE DO THEY GO IN" he would tell her the top one. But at the next dryer she would ask him again which one. I mean lady how much did you drink???? Then a few minutes later when she was by herself putting quarters in she put like 5 in and pushed the button for the dryer ABOVE the one she was using and then tried to yell at the girl who worked there like it was the machines fault and not her own drunkenness that made the mistake. She said something along the lines of "I PUT QUARTERS IN THERE, I AM A WORKING PERSON. WELL I GUESS IT ISN'T YOUR FAULT IT IS THE PEOPLE WHO HIRE YOU!" Then she walked off, staggered off is actually a better description of what she was doing. I have capitalized everything she said because yes she was actually that loud.

It amazes me that people at that age still get THAT drunk. Do you have no control? Do you have no self respect? It is sad, very very sad. This wasn't a teenager who was out having fun with her friends and had a few too many. This was a grown woman who drank herself silly and was so drunk she could barely walk or talk and couldn't do simple tasks that a 1st grader could probably do. Makes you wonder what she is like every other day of the week. Very sad, and yet offered us entertainment at the normally boring and quiet laundromat.

At least she wasn't drunk enough to do this..

Just a Few Things

Dear lady sitting next to me on the train...

Why do you have B.O. ? You do not look like someone who would be unaware of such a thing. And yet there you were beside me infesting my nostrils with the unmistakable smell of someone who has not used deodorant in quite some time. I don't really get it. Maybe you are one of those "all natural" types who thinks any product is bad for you, causes cancer, tested on animals. I really have no clue. All I know is that it isn't fair to the rest of us in the world who have to sit beside you on the train or the bus. Perhaps if you choose not to wear deodorant you could avoid places where you will be cramped next to other people. That way, we don't suffer and you don't have to use deodorant. Just a thought!
Dear creepy guy sitting across from me...

I am sure you are a very nice person. But what isn't nice is the fact you felt the need to STARE at me the entire time I got on until I got off the T. Perhaps my inexplicable beauty was just too much for you to handle but you could have been more subtle. I guess you didn't see my wedding ring, or you just didn't care. The times I happened to make eye contact with you your creepy weird guy smile was so not needed. I already thought you were creepy, but thanks for adding to it.

I love public transportation ;)

New TV Day

And henceforth, the day of September 14th, 2007, shall forevermore be known as New TV Day.

Yes, we finally purchased a new TV and emerged from the rec-room 21" JVC cathode-ray tube era. It's a 37" Vizio LCD HDTV. We don't have the Dish Network HD receiver yet, so it's just a bigger ordinary TV for now. But once we get the new receiver......look out! It will be broadcasting glorious HD for all to see and revel in.

Here are some pictures...Evey and Belle (much like the cats they both pretend to be) seem to be more interested in the TV box...

Top of the Hub

Chris and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary on Wednesday. We went for dinner to Top of the Hub which is the restaurant at the top of the Prudential Center here in Boston. I was nervous about going here for the simple reason I am terrified of heights, and this restaurant is at the very top--the 52nd floor--surrounded by glass windows. After a glass of champagne though, I relaxed and all was good. We had a table by the window and a bottle of champagne awaiting us at our table. It was the first time I had ever eaten in a really fancy place like that, so I was a little overwhelmed with the hostess when she was putting pulling my chair out, putting my napkin on my lap and our waitress pouring our champagne for us. The service was excellent, the food was even better and the views were amazing.
Chris had the 14 ounce sirloin with oxtail ragout and garlic mashed potatoes--and enjoyed every bite of it. I had the smoked chicken spaghettini that was excellent. Of course I took pictures of our food, at the price we paid I wanted pictures darn it.With Chris's nut allergy we were a little limited on what we could get for dessert. We ended up going with this Chai Lemon Pineapple cake with vanilla bean ice cream. It was YUMMY and we even got a candle for our anniversary. he he!
The views were amazing. My favorite had to be watching all the planes line up in the sky to land at the airport. I love watching planes. I hate being in them, but love to watch them...go figure. Throughout the evening I kept getting so excited seeing all the planes that at one point Chris said to me "I know where I am taking you for our anniversary next year." "Where?" I asked. "To the airport!!" he said. Funny guy;)We ended up moving over to the lounge area after supper to enjoy some of the live jazz they have. The band was really good. We capped the night off with a couple of drinks, and I of course had a martini and it was gooooooood!

Seahawks Win, Seahawks Win.....wooohooooo

Earlier today I posted as we were leaving to watch the Seahawks game. We are now home and the Hawks beat the Bucs 20-6. The first half was a little scary as we pretty much did nothing. But we came out to play in the second half and our D held them to only 2 field goals. Nice! Yes I am a dork, I know this. But you love it, and you love me. It is why you keep on coming back;)

Gridiron Sunday

Chris and I are off to watch the Seahawks/Buccaneers game. Here is our before pictures where we are smiling and happy. Let's hope when we get home later tonight we will have after pictures with those same smiles. GO HAWKS!!
Once again I realize my dog looks like she is possessed and evil. Stupid flash!!

Are You Ready For Some Football??

Tomorrow afternoon at 4:05 PM officially kicks off the 2007 football season for the Seattle Seahawks. Chris and I are excited. Lets go HAWKS!!!

College football season is also in full swing. The Washington Huskies have won their first 2 games of the season and we were able to watch both games. The Huskies have been terrible the last few years so let's hope this good start will continue throughout the season. And since our beloved Seattle Mariners have all decided to take a joint nose first dive off a giant cliff into baseball oblivion we are very very happy football is here and the hockey season is just around the corner. Thank goodness!!

Dinner On Top Of The World

Chris and I will be celebrating our 3rd wedding anniversary next Wednesday night. That is September 12, for those of you who don't know today's date or count well. ha ha! Our gift to each other is a brand new 37 inch flat screen LCD TV. Just in time for football and hockey season. We will also be going out for supper that night. We have been throwing ideas around for the past week trying to decide where to go. Tonight Chris suggested the restaurant at the top of the Prudential Center in Boston Top of The Hub is an award winning restaurant that offers amazing views of the entire city and beyond. I am terrified of heights so a little nervous considering Chris requested a window table. ha! I intend to enjoy myself though considering we will be paying a hefty penny I don't have time to worry about how high up I am. lol. Go check out the website HERE

Adventures at Target

Chris and I were at Target tonight looking at area rugs. We found this one off on its own that we liked and wanted to see the price. The name of the rug was "blue circles" so we were looking at all the tags on the shelves to find that one when Chris all of a sudden says "Brown Swirl" I don't want that kind of rug. lol. It was so funny and we couldn't stop laughing. Andrea, I know you will laugh.
We also bought Belle a stuffed frog that ribbits when you squeeze it. She starts playing with it but as soon as it ribbits she stops dead in her tracks and can't figure out what to do. So funny my dog is.

And yes I realize she looks evil and possessed when I take her picture with the flash. Red eye just doesn't seem to work on dogs.

Lets Go For a Stroll........Or NOT!!

Last night around midnight as Chris and I were in bed with the lights off watching TV before we went to sleep for the night Belle did something that just made us laugh. Belle has got into the habit of bringing me my shoes when it is time to go for her walks. So there we were laying in bed as Belle wandered into the kitchen in the dark and came back, jumped up on the bed and plopped my shoe down on my chest. How cute is she?! I felt bad because well as cute as she is I am not getting up at midnight to take her for a walk just because she thinks it is time to go. She eventually just crawled under the blankets and went to sleep. Funny dog!!

Belle and her buddy

Wrigley is a dog I have been walking for well over a year now and him and Belle are the best of friends. Belle gets excited at the mention of his name. So when he comes over for the weekend the excitement level goes through the roof. They played all weekend long and this was a rare moment that we found them relaxing.

Chris and Evey's Adventure to Baltimore and Beyond

So I realize it must seem like forever since we went to Baltimore and yet you have all waited so patiently for me to get my butt in gear and tell you all about it. Who knows, perhaps my lack of blogging has steered you all away for good. For those of you who are still around please bear with me as I work through our trip in this post. I warn you that it will be long and there will be a lot of pictures so get comfy.

We had a great week away from Boston and neither of us wanted to come back. But after a week away and travelling through 8 states--Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington DC it was time to come back to the city we love (sarcasm) and get back to the daily grind. One thing I have always done ever since I was a kid was keep track of all the different license plates we saw along the way. We actually had a pretty good bunch.... Minnesota, Arizona, Missouri, North Dakota, New Hampshire, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Ohio, Delaware, Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington, New Jersey, Florida, Massachusetts, New York, Virginia, Texas, Maine, Connecticut, Maryland, Indiana, Tennessee, California, Illinois, Georgia, Washington DC, Quebec and Ontario. PHEW! That was a mouthful. Now onto the good stuff...

The day of our trip started like any vacation should.....running late and pulling out of the driveway at least two hours later than we had hoped. But alas, we were off and very very happy to get outta town. As you can see from the pictures we were wide awake and ready to go.
We found ourselves travelling through Connecticut and into New York. We decided instead of taking the long way around into New Jersey we would just head through New York and over the George Washington Bridge. Boy was that a DUMB idea!! Yep, you guessed it. Bumper to bumper traffic for well over an hour leading up to the bridge. They were doing construction on the lower deck. Fun times. Once we finally made it through all the traffic and onto the bridge though it was definitely worth it. I love the George Washington Bridge. It was overcast and smoggy that morning so we didn't have much of a view. Once we got over the bridge and into New Jersey it was smooth sailing on the New Jersey Turnpike. We decided to take a detour through Delaware so we could go to Sonic Drive-In for supper. We see commercials for Sonic ALL the time and it drives us nuts because there are none anywhere near us. When we decided to go to Baltimore we were sure to look up any Sonics along the way. It was worth the detour. Every greasy bite was worth it. Hey, don't judge me. I was on vacation, diets don't count on vacation.

The whole point of this trip in the first place was to go to baseball games. Our team the Seattle Mariners were down there in Baltimore for a 3 game series and since they only came to Boston once this year and we only got to one game we decided we would go down to Baltimore and get tickets to all 3 games. We decided to get tickets in different sections for each game. The first game we sat in the 300 (upper) level directly behind home plate. The Mariners won 10-3, so that was a good thing. We took a ton of pictures on all 3 nights and I will only post a few of them here. After you are done reading this you can head over to our picture blog and see ALL our pictures over there. The second game we sat out in left field and we won again, this time the final score was 8-4. It was insanely hot the week we were down there. The temperature at game time on the Wednesday night (7pm) was 101 degrees. It was GROSS! The next night the temp wasn't as bad as it was a little stormy and we did have two rain delays. Once again the Mariners won and the score was 13-8. Always fun to travel to see your ball team and have them win all 3 games.
The above picture is of the plaque that is on the wall of the warehouse where Ken Griffey Jr hit a home run off during the home run derby of the 1993 All Star game. The player ever to hit the building. Seattle fans will know and appreciate this picture.

In Seattle one our TV announcers gives away rally fries at all home and away games. A few months back at a game in Seattle some guy went to catch a foul ball on the warning track and he spilled his fries all over the place. So Mike Blowers (former Mariner and current TV guy) replaced his fries for him. It was the 6th inning and the Mariners ended up scoring a bunch of runs. And so there was born the idea of "rally fries." So now every game fans bring signs and Blowers will give away fries to the fans with the most creative signs. Chris and I made 3 different signs, one for each game. The first one was Chris's moms idea and here is the picture of it...I realize that might not mean anything to some of you. But the old stadium in Seattle where the Mariners use to play was called the Kingdome.

The second game our sign was a little poem that Chris and I came up with and it said...

Drove from Boston to see the guys
Who are still playing well to many's surprise
With each win their critics they defy
So help them out and bring on the rally fries

We did not get rally fries on either of the first two nights and I was a little disappointed. However Chris felt the sign he had for the 3rd games was the best one and had the best chance of getting their attention. It was a sign that was a direct jab at Mike Blowers who had 4 errors in one game. So even though this was "Chris's sign" there I was during both rain delays standing in the rain holding the sign high above my head. Finally we received a phone call from Andrea back in Seattle that they showed us and our sign on TV and they were talking about it. And sure enough to long after that phone call someone brought us rally fries and told us what camera to look at and wave and hold our sign up for. YAY! We got rally fries. I was so excited. A bunch of people in Seattle called us because they saw us on TV, fun times. We also went down behind the Mariner's dugout before a few of the games. We were happy to end up with Raul Ibanez autograph as well as Adam Jones who is our up and coming young star outfielder of the future.

We also spent a day down in Washington DC. That was AWESOME!! We kinda did a whirlwind tour. I definitely would love to go back to DC for a couple of days and spend a lot of time really seeing things and the museums etc. We parked downtown DC and walked walked and walked some more. The first thing we did was of course head toward the White House. You can walk right down the road in front where you can stand and take pictures with the White House in the background. As we got close however noticed that the whole portion of the road in front of the White House was blocked off. We asked a police officer and he told us it would be reopened in about an hour but wouldn't give us any information. So, we decided to walk on over to see and take some pictures of the Washington Monument which is basically across from the White House. We took pictures of the Monument and the were sitting on a bench trying to decide our next destination when I heard a loud roar. I looked up and to the right of the Washington Monument appeared a HUGE helicopter that headed straight toward us. I turned and said to Chris "uh, honey, I think that is the president!" He looked up and said "I think you are right!" Both of us looked in shock as this giant helicopter roared directly above our heads, so close it was almost as if we could reach up and touch it. We turned behind us and watched as it roared toward the White House and right in front our eyes landed on the front lawn. Arguably one of the coolest things I have ever seen in my life. It was awesome. And I tell ya, what a way to get dropped off at home. Sheesh! The Lincoln Memorial was pretty awesome as well. All of it really was pretty amazing. The architecture of everything was unbelievable. We took a quick trip across the river into Virginia to go to Arlington National Cemetery. We saw JFK's grave site and also the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers. It was neat to watch the "changing of the guard." They switch every 20 minutes during the summer and guard the Tomb 24 hours a day. Not sure how well you can read it in this picture. But the below grave is JFK.
There is not really a lot to do in Baltimore itself except for the Inner Harbor Area downtown. It is actually very pretty down there and we spent a few hours walking around taking pictures and buying souvenirs. All in all we had a great trip. It was nice to get away for a little while and go somewhere new. I realize this post was very long and I apologize for that but I wanted to be sure I touched on all the highlights of our trip.
