LAUGHTER--BLOG OFF FOR BREAST CANCER

When I think of laughter I think of a lot of different times in my life. I think for all of us laughter has a a lot of the same meaning and importance. Who wants to live a life without laughter?

On November 21, 1996 my mum passed away from cancer at the age of 49 years old just 26 days shy of her 50th birthday. What does this have to do with laughter you ask? Well for me, it had a lot to do with it. In the months leading up to and after my mum passed away it was a very very hard and emotional time in my life. Sometimes however, you need something to take you away from all the crying and all the other emotions that come along with such events in ones life. I spent a lot of time with 2 of my closest friends, Lori and Tania. A lot of that time was spent laughing. Not really at anything specific, just laughing. In my personal experience laughter definitely can help you heal. Those nights spent laughing until my side hurt were so monumental in my grieving process and I am thankful I had friends who could bring that laughter into my life when I needed it the most.

What are your favorite kinds of laughter?

I love the purity of a child's laugh, it always makes me smile. I love the laughter that makes your stomach hurt so bad yet you just can't stop. I love when you are so tired that everything is funny, and once you start laughing there is no stopping it. I love the feeling of being with an old friend and being able to laugh together about old times.

No matter how you laugh, whether its a simple snicker or a laugh out loud split your gut outburst that has everyone looking at you, it tends to be contagious. And I think we all can agree it is good for the soul.

People say laughter is the best medicine, I tend to agree.

It was just last night that I was making Maya laugh and Jeremy was in the kitchen and when he heard her laughing he said "that is the best sound in the world!" I agree! I love hearing little ones laugh because they are so passionate about it.

Glad to hear that you had great friends to help you through that time. You and I were just getting to know each other when your mom passed away, but I remember feeling some of your pain.

Laughing is definitely good for the soul. It was laughter and recalling memories of my dad that also helped me get through his passing. It's hard to even envision that without that release how much worse it would have been.

nice post

LOL! I popped back in here earlier and was like..."Hmmmm...I know I left a comment in here!" I just chalked it up to a slow server. I can't remember what I wrote previously, but I do remember being SO happy for you that you came up with a post. And ya did GREAT!! Time to sweat about next week (if we make it)...'police'...aye yi yi!

Someone once said that I had a contagious laugh. I'd crack up at the slightest funny, and others would laugh at me, not necessarily with me. Whatever works, I say.

BTW, did you know that "the human head weighs 8lbs?" =)

That's great! And so true! I really do believe that laughter is the best medicine! You know me..I LOVE to laugh! I MUST laugh...and make others laugh! My favorite is when the four of us get together (You, Chris, Bryan and me) and we laugh so hard we're rolling on the floor crying! Good thing we can still do that to each other via IM, miles and miles away from each other!

My Mom died of cancer too...lung, not breast...but she died on her 49th birthday. We used to laugh at the most dumb, inappropriate things. I miss that.

OMG. The video make me cry...I was laughing so hard at that kid. Were they trying to kill him?? LOL That was funny.

I was just saying to Chris the other day that I love when kids laugh. They are so innocent, so everything to them is funny. What a great post.

Kid giggles are definitely the best kind of laugh. It doesn't get much more free and innocent than that!

Must agree that laughter is the stuff that good memories are made of! They definitely make the harder moments a little more bearable.

Great post! Good luck in the blog-off!

Love the post. And I keep coming back to your blog to watch the video you posted. I've seen it so many times, but I still laugh each time I watch it. Thanks!

Who can resist that kid? His laughter is contagious!

It made me feel all warm and fuzzy to think of those two very special friendships that you had, that wonderful support that you had when you most needed it. I thought of my girlfriends and the ones that I know I'll always be able to count on, the things that we've been through and the silly things we've laughed about. We really are blessed, aren't we?

At work, there are two guys that I work with on different occasions and for whatever reason, something in our personalities just clicks. Sometimes, at about three in the morning, we will break into these deliriously tired giggles that are just the best things about that job. As much as it sucks to be that exhausted, it's just too fun to regret it!

Great post, Evey! Let's make sure to create some laughter related stories this summer! ;)

You know, I laugh at funerals. Some might find that inappropriate, but isn't it about us, and how we deal?

Good luck in the blog-off!

It is nice to be reminded of how important laughter is. I LOVE the sound of my baby's laugh. I love hearing my children laugh together. Evey, you are awesome to find laughter in the healing times after you mother's passing. I am sorry to hear of your loss. It seems as though you are a very strong person because of this experience.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Laughter is sure good for the soul, and works out those tummy muscles too, lol.
Sorry to hear about your moms passing, but at least you had friends there to ease the pain.
