Better Late Than Never

I have been getting a hard time from some of you about not posting about our recent vacation. SO, just for all you needy people here is a post just for you.

As you may or may not know Chris and I went down to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina the last week of August. My friends sister owns a condo there and she was gracious enough to rent it out to us for the week. Belle got a vacation of her own when she went to stay in the north end with our friends Kristen and Jeremy. She did a lot of this...It worked out well since Jeremy seems to have enjoyed the napping as much as she did. They even held a nap-a-thon!!
We left on a Friday which looking back was probably not the smartest idea in the world considering we got stuck in a lot of traffic going through New York and New Jersey. I would say we probably lost about 4 hours travel time just from traffic. It really sucked. But what is one to do, we had the condo from Saturday to Saturday so we had to leave on Friday.

We drove all day Friday and were tempted to drive all the way through but by around 11pm we were both super tired and figured it would be better to just stop somewhere overnight and drive the rest of the way in the morning. We decided to stop in a place in North Carolina called Rocky Mount. It worked out perfectly because that Saturday Old Navy was having a jeans sale and there just happened to be an Old Navy almost right across from our hotel. It was like fate had led us there. Four pairs of jeans later we were on our way.

Right as you cross the border into South Carolina there is this super ghetto trashy tourist stop called South of the Border. Georgette insisted we stop there, which I will be honest has me a little concerned about her taste ;) Basically any crap you could think of was there. It was really a very odd place. I don't remember exactly what time we finally arrived at the condo which is in Garden City just south of Myrtle Beach. The building itself is right on the water and I couldn't get over how beautiful it was. The views were amazing. I seriously could have stayed there forever. I don't remember the last time I have slept that good. The sound of the ocean at night put me right to sleep. We had a very relaxing time yet managed to pack a whole lot of stuff into 8 days. Chris golfed 3 times and I went with him on one of those days.It was my first time on a real 18 hole golf course and I did really well. I won't tell you my score but believe me I did good for a first timer. Sadly it POURED the entire time we golfed. Although I suppose I should be happy we didn't get hit by the lightning that showed up for a bit and that it was the only day it rained our entire trip. Rain aside I had a lot of fun. This awesome pic of me below is on the 18th hole and as you can probably tell I am soaked from head to toe. Sexy I know!!We also played miniature golf quite a few times while we were there. You have not see mini golf courses until you go down there. It is INSANE, they are on every corner and all HUGE! I will never look at mini golf the same. We ate food, drank beer, went for drives, took a lot of pictures, sat on the beach at night and drank beer while watching people set off their fireworks up and down the beach. We sat on the beach and soaked up a lot of sun, we swam in the ocean and I got a wicked sunburn on my legs. It sucked a lot. You will notice there are no actual pics of us on the beach. That is because there was a strict rule that the camera was not to be present at anytime while I was in a bathing suit. We spent a day at the Ripley's Aquarium. They had a stingray petting area. That was different. I can't even describe what they felt like, slimy doesn't even begin to describe it. I could have spent all day in the tank area where all the fish and sharks were. It was pretty fascinating to watch them allHard Rock opened a theme park in Myrtle Beach this past year. Once Chris found out about it and found out they had a HUGE roller coaster --Led Zeppelin: The Ride-- he could not have been more excited. We arrived there around 10:30 am thinking we would spend 5 hours or so and then head back to the condo. We ended up staying till the fireworks show at 9:30 PM. We had a really fun day. Chris went on the Led Zeppelin roller coaster I think 7 times. I DID NOT go on it any times. I am a big wuss and not afraid to admit it. That thing was big and went upside down A LOT! Not my idea of a good time. I did go on the smaller Eagles roller coaster though and that was super fun. There was rides and shows and lots of food. We ate the most giant turkey legs ever. A lot of the people who worked there were Russian, that was odd. We met the Banana Splits, spent way too much money on souvenirs and had a lot of fun.
We had a really great time. I would have never left had I had the choice. The weather was perfect and Chris and I both needed a vacation. I can't wait to go back.

On thew way home we took a detour through New York City so we could go to the new NHL store in Manhattan. After that it was back to Boston to pick up Belle who I missed VERY much. I think she was sad to leave Jeremy though, he is her buddy

For those of you not on facebook I should have all the pics up on our picture blog by the end of the weekend so keep an eye out.

Wow - you guys really did pack a lot into one little vacation. Holy Schmoly! Looks like fun though. I still think that your condo looks a lot like where we stayed in Lincoln City for our honeymoon. THE INN AT THE SPANISH HEAD - you can google it to see pictures. I loved waking up to the ocean too:)
