Tales from the Laundromat

Chris and I have had many interesting trips to the laundromat we go to. Many times we vow never to go back to the same one and yet we do. I am not sure why...perhaps it is that the prices are good or perhaps it is that we are addicted to the entertainment that sometimes presents itself. Like the time the crazy dude tried to beat up the laundry bag vending machine or the time some guys dryer actually started on fire.

Thursday night started out like every other night we go to the laundromat, full of possibilities and suspense. We decided that we only needed to do one load--but put it in the double-sized washer. Unfortunately, at our ghetto little laundromat, there are only two double washers--one was "out of order" and one was full of stuff. Well, crap. Ironically, right when we had loaded our stuff into a single washer, the lady came in and got her stuff out of the double. So thankfully, we got to use the double anyways. But that was only the beginning of the story...

We proceeded to take our things out of the single and into the now empty double washer. As our clothes were washing the lady and her daughter were now tending to the clothes in the dryers. When I say dryers I actually mean all TWELVE she was using. That's right, I said twelve. So you would think maybe she had lots of clothes to dry that night. As it turns out...not really. At one point she removed her stuff from the two dryers closest to where Chris and I were standing. Thinking she was now done with those dryers I had decided in my mind I would use those two. Just as quickly as I was thinking this to myself she came back to said dryers and in one of them took TWO towels and put them in, closed the door and popped in a quarter...

Like she was all OCD and stuff. It looked like she was trying to feel out the dryers and talk to them so that they could dry her stuff quicker. Much like this. So basically, we watched in horror as this lady took things out of one dryer, put them in another, then switched ALL of those things to yet ANOTHER dryer, while taking the original things out of that dryer and finding a different one. It eventually became comical, and we were just sitting in the corner waiting for our stuff to stop washing, snickering at the lady. I'm surprised she didn't hear us...and heck, maybe she did. Who cares. It was stinkin' hilarious.

All of that aside what else was annoying and yet humorous about this woman who I am guessing to be somewhere in her 40's was that she was dressed and acting like she was 16 or 17 years old. You know those moms who try to be cool like their daughters and act like them and be friends with them!?! Yet she wasn't cool and she looked ridiculous in the clothes she was wearing. She reminded me a lot of someone who smoked WAY too much pot when she was young.

So all in all, it was a very entertaining night at the laundromat.

You want to be careful. I'd hate to hear you'd been a victim of dryer rage!!! ;)

Well, obviously it was her laundry day and she had nothing else to wear but trampy clothes from her daughter.
Laundromats are funny places. I saw one lady once bring all her cleaning chemicals with her and clean every machine before she used it. She must have spent a fortune running those machines through first with no clothes in them. Gosh! People are weird.

Oh what a story! It made me think of this time when I was at the drug store and this lady and her 15 year-old daughter were looking at makeup and the mom bent down to get something of the bottom shelf and her impossibly tight jeans lower enough to see a hot pink thong. Worse, her daughter looked down and said, "Mom! I told you to stop wearing my underware!"

I left the store before I had a fit of uncontrollable hysterics!!!

Lovely! Nothing like an evening of cheap entertainment!!! Thanks for stopping by today, btw! Ah...the days of the laundromat! I might just go to our local "ghetto" laundromat just for a cheap night out! Sounds like a hoot. Oh, and WE will NEVER be so totally uncool as that chick...will we???

My sister would be OCD enough that she would wash them out before using them. What a nut.

I don't use our local laundromat. The people that frequent it are just too freaky. I'm so glad I got a good deal on mine, because I hate washing clothes in public places. I meet enough weirdos as it is.

I was just thinking that it is so weird how we all have funny stories like that and yet all we can do is blog about them. But I have to admit, NOTHING will ever top meeting that weird drug-induced man at Keegan's who told us that he was the heir to some great fortune or something. The scariest part was when we were driving away and it felt as though he were following us on his bike. Remember that?! GOSH! What a funny night that was!

That is so funny!!!! I was actually thinking "was she smoking Pot or something"?!! Humm, maybe. I seriously think that there needs to be a movie just about the happenings at a laundry mat. I love the picture of her coaxing the dryers too! :)

PS Don't worry about the meme if you don't get to it. I totally understand that they take forever to do sometimes!! Although I would love to know all of those things about you! :)

That lady sounds like great entertainment. Who wants to sit there & be bored? I get the feeling she'd be upset if you happened to switch her clothes around a bit when she wasn't looking. She might have a meltdown right there.
