Tales from the Laundromat

Chris and I have had many interesting trips to the laundromat we go to. Many times we vow never to go back to the same one and yet we do. I am not sure why...perhaps it is that the prices are good or perhaps it is that we are addicted to the entertainment that sometimes presents itself. Like the time the crazy dude tried to beat up the laundry bag vending machine or the time some guys dryer actually started on fire.

Thursday night started out like every other night we go to the laundromat, full of possibilities and suspense. We decided that we only needed to do one load--but put it in the double-sized washer. Unfortunately, at our ghetto little laundromat, there are only two double washers--one was "out of order" and one was full of stuff. Well, crap. Ironically, right when we had loaded our stuff into a single washer, the lady came in and got her stuff out of the double. So thankfully, we got to use the double anyways. But that was only the beginning of the story...

We proceeded to take our things out of the single and into the now empty double washer. As our clothes were washing the lady and her daughter were now tending to the clothes in the dryers. When I say dryers I actually mean all TWELVE she was using. That's right, I said twelve. So you would think maybe she had lots of clothes to dry that night. As it turns out...not really. At one point she removed her stuff from the two dryers closest to where Chris and I were standing. Thinking she was now done with those dryers I had decided in my mind I would use those two. Just as quickly as I was thinking this to myself she came back to said dryers and in one of them took TWO towels and put them in, closed the door and popped in a quarter...

Like she was all OCD and stuff. It looked like she was trying to feel out the dryers and talk to them so that they could dry her stuff quicker. Much like this. So basically, we watched in horror as this lady took things out of one dryer, put them in another, then switched ALL of those things to yet ANOTHER dryer, while taking the original things out of that dryer and finding a different one. It eventually became comical, and we were just sitting in the corner waiting for our stuff to stop washing, snickering at the lady. I'm surprised she didn't hear us...and heck, maybe she did. Who cares. It was stinkin' hilarious.

All of that aside what else was annoying and yet humorous about this woman who I am guessing to be somewhere in her 40's was that she was dressed and acting like she was 16 or 17 years old. You know those moms who try to be cool like their daughters and act like them and be friends with them!?! Yet she wasn't cool and she looked ridiculous in the clothes she was wearing. She reminded me a lot of someone who smoked WAY too much pot when she was young.

So all in all, it was a very entertaining night at the laundromat.

Review Debut

So I thought I'd blog a bit.

First of all, we hope you like our new blog look for now--it took me forever to figure out the top picture and how to size it correctly.

Second--I was going to post about the Super Bowl, but I got depressed just thinking about how we should've won. Plus, I'm sure most of our blog readers either don't care or have gotten over it by now.

Thirdly--I have decided to start a restaurant review post. (Because I'm sure all of you want to listen to my rants as an unwarranted food critic.)

We visited Pizzeria Uno--Chicago Uno--Chicago Pizzeria Uno--Chicago Bar & Grill at Pizzeria Uno--Oriole Park at Camden Yards--uhh, whatever. (Officially its Uno Chicago Grill.)
Ambiance--quite nice. Kind of old-school Italian restaurant (with pasta boxes stacked along the walls) mixed with new-school (TV's hung from the ceiling in the aisles.) 8 of 10.
Service--Our waitress was very cordial, taking our drink orders and giving us plenty of time to decide what we wanted. It was our first time there. Our drinks were refilled promptly, and she offered us dessert, of which we partook (see below) 7.5 of 10.
Food--Evey ordered Chicken and Broccoli Fettucine with a side house salad, and I, being at a Pizzeria, decided to order their namesake--an individual Chicago deep-dish pizza. The salad came first--nothing too spectacular, but the croutons were very good. Our orders came out, and all of the sudden, my outlook changed. My pizza was tiny! Like slightly bigger than a microwave pizza. Evey looked at me and said, "Is that it?" Although it looked quite small, I quickly figured out that it was thick. Very thick. Hence "deep-dish." All in all, I wasn't very impressed, but it did manage to make a full meal. Evey's fettucine was HUGE. A big bowl, full of pasta, hunks of chicken and broccoli. The ratio of pasta to chicken (which is crucial in a dish like that) was very good. She got a lot of chicken, enough for a piece in every bite. Instantly I was jealous--looking at my ghetto pizza. 7 of 10.
Dessert--the dessert we got was the Deep-Dish Sundae--basically just a huge chocolate-chip cookie in a pan topped with ice-cream. Mmmm. The cookie was fresh and warm, and the ice cream was the perfect topper. 10 of 10.
Value--Average. For the amount of food we got, we paid about what you would expect. 6 of 10.

Recap:
Ambiance: 8
Service: 7.5
Food: 7
Dessert: 10
Value: 6
Total: 38.5 out of 50.

Lessons learned: Don't get pizza. Do get dessert.

Happy Belated Valentines Day

Chris and I didn't do anything extravagant last night. I spent the afternoon shopping and stuff with Amy and then Chris picked me up and we headed to Red Robin. It doesn't sound very romantic but the closest one to us is an hour away so we don't get to go very often and we both love it. Chris did get me some chocolates (YUM) and a cute stuffed monkey. "Love Monkey" as he called it. And we named him Chester.Valentines Day was also the 2 year anniversary since he got me Annabelle:) Crazy to think we have had her for 2 whole years already. She's our crazy girl and we love her very much.

Winter Wonderland

I posted a picture of our backyard in my previous post. I took it last night around 1am. These pictures below I took around 9am and the snow is not supposed to stop till this evening sometime and it is coming down like crazy. Needless to say, we won't be doing much of anything today.

It was a good night until..........

Chris and I went to some friends for dinner tonight. One thing I hate about Boston is the lack of parking everywhere you go. If it's not metered and all taken it's permit and resident parking only and its RETARDED!!! We couldn't find parking at Chris and Kellie's tonight so we parked in the grocery store parking lot near their apartment. And sure enough when we went to leave the truck was gone. STUPID STUPID STUPID! They gave us a ride to the towing place to get the truck.....$110 bucks later we got the truck back. OUCH!

On another note we have a crazy storm headed our way tonight. There is not a drop of snow anywhere to be found right now, but I am sure when we wake up tomorrow morning we will be buried. We have barely had any snow all winter so this should be fun. I have a feeling we will be digging the car out tomorrow.
Here is our yard as of 5 mins ago. I will take a picture when I get up in the morning and post it.

Oh My Brittle Bones

Yesterday I took the train downtown to meet Chris around supper time. I met him at the Starbucks he was at on a job. When I got there I decided I needed to use the bathroom....As I was coming out of the bathroom I decided to turn the light off. I missed the first time so I stuck my hand back in to try again and unfortunately didn't get my hand back out in time and the nice BIG HEAVY door slammed itself on my hand. It was not pleasant. We went to the doctor and he told me I most likely fractured something. Lovely. And of course it has to be my left hand (I'm left handed). Oh well, it's not that bad...I can still do stuff with it I just have to be a little more careful than normal. It could be worse.....Like the time I was at a winter retreat at my church camp and I was tubing and proceeded to break my wrist in 3 places. Now THAT sucked. I am sure Lori remembers spending the day in the ER at the hospital in Red Deer with me. And I am sure Chrissy remembers giving me and Ange that push to get our tube going;) Fun times!

On a different note......Just before Christmas I broke our camera. We sent it into the Fuji repair (on warranty) about a month ago and finally got it back today. YAY!

Happy Birthday Austin

HAPPY 7th BIRTHDAY AUSTINOk so this post is a few days late, his birthday was actually on Wednesday the 8th. What is insane is that he is 7 years old. I remember the day he was born and I remember how excited I was to be an Auntie for the first time. He is a great kid and I miss him like crazy, he has always been my best little buddy. He has the flu right now so here's to hoping he feels 100% for his party on Sunday afternoon. Love ya buddy!!

The Grammys

So I never really watched the Grammys last night...There was much more important things on TV such as LOST and Project Runway. But I was lucky enough to catch U2 perform. For those of you who don't know, U2 is my favorite band. I have seen them live and it was the most amazing concert I have been to. They are such a great band to watch live. My favorite U2 song is One, which they ended up performing with Mary J. Blige. It was AMAZING! She really gets into it and her energy just made the song that much better.

The other performance I happened to catch was Madonna at the beginning. It amazes me that at her age she can wear what she did and look good doing it. I am not normally a huge Madonna fan but I really enjoyed her last night.

Girls Night Out!

I posted a few weeks ago about going out for a friends birthday. I just got this pic sent to me so I thought I would post it. Left to right starting in the back: Becca, Me, Kristen, Kellie, Joy, Kelly, Connie and Amy.

More Random Ramblings

I could give you a ton of reasons as to why I have not been blogging as of late. Probably the main one being I have had 3 teeth extracted in the last month, 2 of which left me in pain and on drugs. Thank God it is all over and done with.

A few weeks ago Chris and I finally got a Costco membership. I am not sure really why it has taken us this long to go and get one. We are now officially Costco addicts and spend A LOT of time there. Some of the prices there AMAZE me. Take a 2 oz tube of Hydro-cortisone cream for example. At the grocery store, pharmacy, drugstore or wherever ONE generally costs anywhere from 3-4 dollars. We got a 4 pack of them for 6 dollars at Costco. I could go on all day about the savings we have gotten there in the short time we have had this membership but I won't cause I think you get the idea. Moral of the story.....I LOVE COSTCO!!!

Last week as Chris and I were heading out somewhere we noticed a rather large rock looking thing in our yard. At first glance that is all I thought it was-a rock. At second glance it looked more to me like one of those fake turtle ornaments for your garden or whatever. Upon closer examination we both realized it was not a rock or a fake turtle but in fact a real turtle who happened to have met it's demise on our lawn.

Now the first thought we both had was where in the heck would a turtle this size have come from. Our landlords son claimed they lived around here and in Jamaica pond. Chris and I both know that was not possible considering how far Jamaica pond is from us it would have taken a turtle FOREVER to walk that far. Turns out it belonged to the people who live 4 doors down. Our landlord told us they "lost" a turtle about 2 months ago. HOW DO YOU LOSE A TURTLE??????? It's not like if you open the door it can run away, I am pretty sure you would notice. Knowing how they are though, I guess I shouldn't be surprised. And don't worry, Chris gave it a proper burial in our garbage can;)

Hope everyone is having a good week

Evey
