Baseball Pants and Softball Bats

Chris and the guys from church had their first softball games last night. As usual I forgot to take pictures. Last year they only had one team but this year we ended up with two. Our church tends to get lots of new people each year because so many people move here to come to school. A lot of great schools out here.....Harvard, MIT, Boston University and Boston College etc. So this year they have a total of 27 guys. Like last year Chris was in charge of organizing all of it which was a little trying at times trying to deal with that many people. Another friend from church is coaching the other team since there is no way Chris can coach both. They both had games last night, our team won 8-0 and the other guys won 15-9. The bonus is that Chris hasn't hurt himself yet:) For those of you who don't know Chris is injury prone. 3 years ago he broke his elbow playing softball (2 years before that he broke his other elbow playing roller hockey)and last year he tore his meniscus in his left knee. Here are a couple of posts from the day after it happened and the day of his surgery.

He had surgery and all sorts of fun stuff. He is all healed up now but I am still nervous he is going to hurt himself again. I told him if he hurts himself this year he is retiring from sports of all forms...either that or he has to live in a bubble. LOL

LETS GO OILERS! I am so pumped for tonight. If we can win tonight to force a game 7 who knows what can happen. And I just have to say that any TRUE hockey fan from Canada is rooting for the Oilers to win this series. When the Flamers were in the finals two years ago you better believe I was rooting for them to bring the cup home to Canada where it belongs. I had a conversation this morning with a die hard Canucks fan who was quick to let me know he was pulling for the Oilers all the way. Now that is a true Canadian hockey fan.

GO OILERS GO!!!!! I BELIEVE!!!!

14 down, 2 to go!!!

When the Oilers lost game 4 on Monday against the Hurricanes I was convinced they were done. And not because I didn't think they were good enough but because for the first time since these playoffs started they looked beat and they looked tired. They looked like a team who had given it's all and there wasn't anything left in the tank. My attitude going into the game last night was that if they won GREAT but I was prepared for a loss.

And so came last night.....The team I had seen lose just a few nights before, the very same team that looked like they had finally ran out of gas was nowhere to be seen. The team that came to play last night was nothing like that team. Andrea I am so glad you got a Costco membership!! They had speed, grit and most of all heart. They knew they had to win last night and win they did. In VERY exciting fashion. Fernando Pisani scored a shorthanded goal in overtime last night and it was AWESOME!!
And so now the series sits at 3 games to 2 in favor of the Hurricanes. I don't know what will happen on Saturday night in game 6. Of course like I stated in my previous post about last nights game I hope the Oilers win. If they don't I will still be the same crazy fan I have always been.

Maybe last nights win means the Oilers make a comeback in this series and bring it all home. Or maybe it means they just get to go home to play in front of their home fans one more time. Either way I guarantee you it will be exciting.

LETS GO OILERS!!!

Do or Die

So as I am sure you have all figured out by now I am a die hard Oilers fan. This playoff run they have had has been amazing. The have done things that no one gave them a chance in doing. They started off by disposing of the NHL's leading team (Detroit Red Wings) in 6 games, then after being down 2 games to none against the San Jose Sharks they came back and won the series by winning 4 straight games. They then finished off the Anaheim Mighty Ducks in 5 games to win the Western Conference Championship.
And now here they are....down 3 games to 1 to a very good hockey team. History is not on their side as they try to win tonight to force a game 6. Will they do it? I sure hope so! But if they don't I will still be the same die hard Oilers fan I have always been, I will still pay for the hockey package every season so I can watch my beloved team play each and every game. Only 1 team in the history of sports has come back from a deficit like this in a championship series and that was 54 years ago. Could the Oilers do it? Sure they could. Will they? I don't know. What I do know is that come game time tonight at 8pm I will be in front of my TV with my jersey and hat on, I will drink my Canadian beer and I will cheer them on. If it all ends tonight I will still be an Oiler fan and I will be proud of what they did to get where they are now. No one gave them a chance to get this far and they proved them all wrong.

GO OILERS GO!!!

World Cup!

The World Cup has begun! I know that most of our blog readers don't really care for most sports--especially soccer, but I played for most of my childhood and through my teens, so I love the game. The USA has a shot to be very good this tournament, but they are stuck in a VERY hard group with Italy, Ghana, and the Czech Republic. So just to advance past the group stage into the knockout round will be a success.

I am trying to watch every game this time, since we have DVR and they don't start at 2 AM (like in 2002 when they played in Korea). The USA plays Czech Republic tomorrow at noon, but a few of us soccer fans at church are having a get-together to watch the game tomorrow evening. It's gonna be SUPER tough to not hear the result of the game somehow somewhere throughout the day. Not that there are a lot of people that give a crap about soccer in the US, because trust me--there aren't--but mostly because most of the time I listen to sports radio, and they do updates during the day. Well, I guess I'll listen to a lot of this tomorrow--I'm pretty sure I won't hear anything sports related on that station...

On to part 2 of my post. If you remember, a while back I posted that I loved the show Project Runway. On that same note, I just wanted to post that I sew. Yeah, that's right--I said it. I sew. Not well, mind you, but I can patch up the occasional hole or tear. Now--a couple of notes: I am not gay. I am not this guy. Nor this guy. And again, I am not gay. I can just remember taking Home Ec in 7th grade and learning how to sew and cook. (And also taking it for an easy "A", which I got.) My mom also taught me some basics as well. I remember making an apron for my mom. It was completely hideous and poorly constructed, but I'm pretty sure she still has it hanging up in the closet, and uses it as a 4th backup when her 3 regular aprons are dirty. It's thin denim with red trim. Money. Go USA!
Hey guess what!?!?! The SUN came out today!!! Can you believe that? I can't, I was certain it would never shine again. Hopefully it stays this way for a while. The rain is getting old.

Chris and the guys from church were supposed to have their first softball games Friday night but they were all rained out. I guess we will have to wait till this Friday for game 1. Instead we ran some errands.

The World Cup started on Friday and it has been soccer ever since at our house. Chris recorded and watched 2 games Friday and 3 games yesterday and today. I don't really mind soccer. I would probably be more interested if Canada or Scotland were playing. Tomorrow night Chris and some friends from church are getting together to watch the USA game. Our friends David and Kellie have a very very nice big television. So they will be headed over there tomorrow evening. I however will stay home to watch the Oiler game:)

In between Chris's soccer watching yesterday we did some shopping. Nothing too exciting just some little things. Chris was happy to find a book he has been wanting "One Magical Sunday" for super cheap. He isn't a big reader, but Phil Mickelson is his favorite golfer so this book was a must read for him. I got a couple of new shirts which made me happy. I didn't feel like cooking last night so we got some Applebees to go and got home in plenty of time for us to eat and then get ready to watch the Oiler game.

I will admit I was a little nervous about this game. The Oilers needed to win last night and win they did. It might not have been pretty but who cares, we won and that's what matters. It was actually a great hockey game. We scored early and that pretty much set the tone for the whole game. We won the game 2-1 and got ourselves back into this series. Our goalie Jussi Markkanen who I have always thought is a decent goalie made the stops he needed to last night. Perhaps that will shut the critics up for the time being. Game 4 is tomorrow night and again it is a game we need to win. They need to feed off the momentum from last night and take it into tomorrows game and keep it rolling. LETS GO OILERS!!!!!!

Today has been pretty uneventful. We slept in this morning and so we didn't make it to church. Chris again was watching soccer today so I decided to watch Under the Tuscan Sun on the computer. I really enjoyed this movie, I have always liked Diane Lane and the scenery in this movie was unbelievable.

Now we are finishing watching the Mariner's game and then I think Chris is going to grill some burgers for supper. We will probably take Belle for a nice walk a little later and then perhaps watch a movie.

The McClees River

This is what we have the joy of wading through every time we step out of our gate to get to the car. There is a drain out there that backs up everytime it rains and it sucks. That water is super deep and if we don't maneuver around it properly we end up with very very wet feet. Perhaps we should call into the news station and have them keep track of it with all the other rivers;)

Gloomy Wednesday

I swear I don't remember it raining this much this time of year here last year. IT SUCKS!!! It was nice for like 2 days and then right back to the wet gross rain. The rain has been pretty much a daily thing for well over a month now. I almost forget what the sun looks like.

Game two of the SC Finals is tonight. I'm still in shock over the loss the other night and I don't mean the fact that we lost the game. We lost Dwayne Roloson (our goalie) with 5 minutes to go to an MCL injury. He is out for the playoffs and now the Oilers need to look to one of the backups who were less than mediocre this season. Conklin more so has been HORRID and I am afraid he may be the one in net tonight. Oh well, no good team wins a championship without some bumps in the road. The Oilers have overcome all of them so far this postseason lets hope they can do it one more time. I BELIEVE!!!!! GO OILERS!!!! "It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped."

Our grass is actually growing. There are still some small parts that need grass seed to be reapplied to. If it will ever stop raining for more than a day we will do that. But either way here is some before and after pics. The after one I just took this morning

My new Oilers hat!

LETS GO OILERS!!

Once again the slacker has returned. It seems I keep getting distracted from blogging lately. I drive myself crazy because I am not one of those people who use the I don't have time excuse. Because I DO have the time, i just get doing other things and I forget. Anyways......

We had yet another busy weekend. And yet another weekend where I forgot to use our digital camera. I guess I will just have to post pictures of other people, which I will get to later.

I hope everyone had a good weekend, once again it felt like we were busy from the start. Friday night we went out for dinner with some friends. Saturday we had a gazzilion errands to run including going to Costco and grocery shopping. We made it home about 2:45 pm and needed to leave at 3:30 pm and I still had 4 batches of rice krispie squares to make.

Our church softball teams start their season this Friday. Like last year Chris is in charge of all of it. The only difference this year is that we have 2 teams instead of 1. So Saturday was their last practice and afterwards we had a BBQ at Mark and Connie's. Since we have so many new guys to the team this year I thought it would be a great idea to have a "pre-season" get together. It turned out to be a crappy day for a BBQ as it was yet again rainy and stormy. The guys met to practice at 4 and the rain held off long enough for them to get some good practice time in. It did rain on them a little but they are men and they sucked it up. Before Chris went to practice he dropped me off at Georgette's so we could head over and help get things ready before all the boys showed up. We picked up Becca on the way and off we went to slave away. Err....I mean set things up:)

Even though we had to be inside it turned out to be a great evening and there was a great turn out and lots of food.

Sunday was a relaxing day. After church we headed yet again to Anna's Taqeuria with some friends for lunch. I am telling you....BEST BURRITOS ever and they are so cheap. I love it.

And here we are on Monday. My new Oilers hat that I ordered from NHL.com came in the mail today. Just in time for game 1 tonight of the Stanley Cup Finals. I still can't believe it is the finals and June and I am STILL watching Oiler hockey. I have waited a long time for this and I am so excited. Just ask Chris, it is all I can talk about. GO OILERS GO!!!!

Ok so, I was trying to post some pictures in this post but I guess blogger doesn't want me to. So I guess I will post them separately through hello.

My mother and father in law John and Linda on a glacier in Alaska. They just returned from a week long Alaskan Cruise.

Drinking from the glacier.....brrr his lips must have been C-O-L-D!!
