The Walking Injury

Let me preface this post by saying that everybody says I shouldn't play sports because I tend to hurt myself too much. They're probably right.

So last night was our seventh game in our softball season. Heading into it we sat at 5-1, in third place. The team we played was 6-0 and tied for first. Basically as Evey said, they were a bunch of loud-mouthed cocky guys from the Army, who CLEARLY could not deal with getting their arses kicked all over the field. We shellacked them 21-11. It wasn't even close.

Now comes the bad part....during the 3rd inning, I was playing third base. A ball was hit to my left and I moved laterally to get to it, and.....POP! The inside of my left knee popped. Bad. I wasn't one of those normal pops. The weird thing was when I moved to scoop the grounder, it wasn't a violent, quick move...I just kinda shuffled to my left. I felt to me like I tore my MCL (the inside tendon). Looking back on it now, I foolishly chose to keep playing--but I moved over to first base to limit my movements so I wouldn't hurt it more. So today is mostly laying on the couch, icing, relaxing and elevating. I am not sure yet if I want to go to the hospital...we'll see how it feels tomorrow.

I will miss our last game, and I most likely will miss the playoffs too. Which totally bums me out, because we are playing so well, and also because I enjoy playing with the team. Not to brag or anything, but I can play pretty well. So I guess we'll see what happens.
First of all I want someone to tell me why people in the entire city of Boston and surrounding area CANNOT drive! It's scary, I mean if I told you half the things people do here in regards to driving you probably wouldn't believe me. After being here 9 months the stupidity of people still amazes me. Some people may argue with me that drivers in New York or LA are worse. My argument in that is that there is really no comparison in New York city cause there is a bazzilion more cars, so of course they are going to be worse. Los Angeles on the other hand I really don't think are worse. Sure I don't drive there all the time, but in L.A it's really more that people drive fast. Here they are just plain stupid. And it's darn scary!!

Onto other things...Amy and Troy and Becca and Travis came over for dinner before the softball game last night. My dog had 'people overload' and was stinking excited. At least she calms down after a few minutes. Either that or waits for Chris to lay down the law, then she knows its time to take it down a notch.

The guys played their 7th game last night, going into it they were 5 and 1, and the team they were playing were 6 and 0. The team they played ended up being a bunch of LOUD and OBNOXIOUS army guys. One of the guys was SO LOUD I wanted to throw something at him to shut him up. And he was just an ass, for example..They didn't really get anything good going off of Troy who pitches for us until the 7th inning. Then he was like "what happened pitcher you were good 1 through 6" blah blah blah! Then he was making fun of Chris...Chris hurt himself in the later part of the game, I will let him blog about that but let's just hope and pray it's no big deal and not a torn MCL like he thinks it is. Anyways they were just a bunch of jerks, but the good news is that we beat them 21-11:) And now we are 6 and 1 and tied for second place. Although I guess that depends on whether the 1st place team won last night or not we may be all 3 tied for 1st.

Today will be a lazy Saturday, especially with Chris's knee out of commission for the time being. Good thing we got 2 new movies from Netflix in the mail today!!

The Struggle for Power......

Wouldn't ya know it, Chris and I get home last night and about 20 mins later the freaking power went out AGAIN! But first......

Chris took me up to meet Amy in Cambridge yesterday. Amy and I went for lunch to a place called "Not Your Average Joes." I had never been there before and it was really good. After lunch we picked up Travis and headed over to help a couple who just moved here move some stuff into their apartment. When I say just moved here I really mean JUST! They had arrived in Boston around 11 yesterday morning after driving 3 or so days from Oklahoma. Anyways we waited for Chris to show up and help the guys move a gargantuan couch. It was pretty entertaining, I think it took them a half hour just to get the couch through the first door in the building. Fun times!

After we got their stuff moved in and waited for AAA to come and unlock the moving van so Bryan(new guy) could get into it since he locked the keys in there! Ha! By this time Becca and Troy had joined us since they had since gotten off of work. Chris and I led Katie and Bryan to the moving truck place so they could return it and get their car. Then we all headed over to Amy and Troys for pizza. John and Kelly also joined us. Poor Troy, he gets off work to find out EIGHT people are coming over for dinner! HA! Anyways after dinner Katie and Bryan headed home and the rest of us went to see Batman Begins. Too my pleasant surprise it was an EXCELLENT movie! Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a little wary about seeing it just because other than the original Batman with Michael Keaton I have thought all the Batman movies were STUPID! This on the other hand was totally different from the rest and very very good.

By the time we got home it was almost midnight, Belle had energy to kill and we also had to go up and let the dogs upstairs out cause they were gone away for the night. We get back inside and downstairs, I had just connected to the computer to check email and DARKNESS! It's getting old people...I mean really! How many times are we going to lose power. I don't know what the heck could have caused it this time because it was far from being hot today! It didn't last for long this time, maybe an hour at the most. But then when we woke up this morning our clock was flashing, which means the power went out again while we were sleeping. ARGH! Driving me NUTS!

Alright, that is all. I need to get stuff done, Amy and Troy and maybe Becca and Travis are coming over to eat before tonight's softball game!

Just a Few Things

I cannot believe I totally forgot to write about the funniest thing that happened at the beach the other day. So we had JUST got there, like not even two minutes. Chris sat down on the blanket, leaned back and then immediately got CRAPPED on by a Seagull! HAHAHAHA! It was SO funny. Big old poop mark on his shirt.

On another note the NHL released the upcoming seasons schedule yesterday. Now if you know Chris and I you know how devoted we are to our hockey teams. A reminder incase you all forget Chris is an Avalanche fan and me an Oilers fan. It always happens we play each other a lot during the season cause we are in the same division, well this year we play each other more often cause they are really focusing on divisional matchups. And wouldn't you know it, October 5th which is opening night....Colorado is AT Edmonton. WOOHOOOO! Should be an interesting night at out house. Someone will be going to bed pissed off! LOL

I Wish the Power Would Stop Going Out

It has been really hot and humid here again lately, as it has been everywhere. Anyways we have no A/C so it gets pretty hot in here at times. Well last night just as we were getting ready to go walk the dog around 9pm the power went out. The last time the power went out it didn't come back on till 2 AM or so. So we headed over to Starbucks where they have their A/C BLASTING and it feels wonderful. We even got our drinks for free...woohoooo. I like when that happens. Anyways when we got home around 10:30 pm the power was back on. Nice! Fast forward to 2:30 AM when I wake up in a SAUNA....only to realize the power had gone out again. I don't know what time it came back on, all I know is it scared the crap outta me when the fans started blowing all loud.

Softball, BBQ's and the Beach!!

I love weekends that even though busy are SO relaxing, this weekend was one of those.

Friday night the guys had their 6th softball game. Going into Friday night they were 4-1. Their only loss came in the first game they played. Which probably had a lot of us worried that they weren't going to be very good. Ha! Turns out they are pretty darn good. I think really the biggest reasons they lost that game are that they had never played together and they were short guys that night. For example they only had 3 outfielders as opposed to 4 that night, which in softball can make for some hard times out there. Since then though the guys have been solid. Friday's game was against a team who was also really good and they were undefeated going into the game. We changed that though and the guys came out on top with a 16-5 victory. Fun times! The funny thing is that they are the only team in the league that ever has anyone out watching their games. Kinda funny. This week there was like 20 of us. All the wives and some other people from our church. After the game Chris and I went over to Troy and Amy's along with Becca and Travis. We just hung out for a while and Amy made some REALLY YUMMY brownies. Unfortunately Chris couldn't have any cause they had almonds in them but YUM!!

Saturday we pretty much just spent around the house. We had stuff to do here and some work to do in the yard. So that is what we did, Chris decided to head to the store around 5 to get some meat to BBQ. And he came home with some super yummy steak tips, marinated them in a teriyaki marinade and grilled em up. They were super good! After dinner I ended up taking a Benadryl cause my allergies were totally bothering me. So of course it was not long before I was OUT COLD leaving Chris to watch You've Got Mail (it was on TV) by himself. I finally woke up around 11pm and we took the dog out to play in the yard to expend some of her energy. Then we had some ice cream and wine and watched The Pacifier. Which actually turned out to be a pretty cute movie. It was funny.

This morning (Sunday) Chris had to get up super early and was outta here by 6:45 to go take care of a couple of things at a Starbucks not far from us. It was not his on call weekend but Pasha was out with kidney stones so the guys just shared the calls. Not sure what time he was home at but I was up around 9 getting ready. Amazingly we were on time for church this morning. Ha! Usually we are at least 5 or 10 minutes late. After church a bunch of us went out to Salisbury Beach way up North almost in Maine. It was gorgeous out, about 85 degrees, perfect day to spend at the beach. And of course the nice breeze the ocean offers makes it that much better. It was a great day of just hanging out, chatting, reading and relaxing. Once everyone decided to set up the volleyball net Amy and I took our seats on the side to be the cheerleaders. Or something like that, I don't think we actually watched, but it was fun anyways! Ha! I think we were there from like 2pm till 7 this evening. It was a great day. We all headed to the Dairy Queen down the road on the way home. I was so excited to be able to get my Sundae in a little Seattle Mariners hat! :)

So there ya have it, it was a busy yet very relaxing weekend. Now we are home, the dog has been walked. Chris is falling asleep in front of the tv and here I am blogging and enjoying some wine, winding down and getting ready to head to bed. :)

Hope everyone else had a great weekend and I will be sure to visit all of your blogs over my coffee in the morning!!

I forgot....

In Seattle our friends Jen and Ryan had people over for a BBQ EVERY Saturday night for Hockey Night in Canada. It was awesome, good friends, good beer and hockey all night long. It was great, we are definitely going to miss that weekly gathering this year. Although we have found we have friends out here who are very much hockey fans as well. The BAD thing about it is they are all from Texas and LOVE the Dallas Stars. That's a tough one for me....Stars/Oilers just don't mesh together. ha! So I guess it will make for some interesting BBQ's at our place this year:)

It's Official....GAME ON!!!! WOOOHOOOOOOO

Today is a very very very very very HAPPY day in our house. Finally we can begin the countdown to the beginning of the 2005-2006 NHL season. Finally the lockout is OFFICALLY over! I don't know where all of you plan on being on October 5th, but I know where I will be. In front of my TV taking in ALL the hockey I can. Cause I have missed it. It has been like torture for us with having the whole season cancelled last year. While I have grown to LOVE baseball since I have been with Chris it is just not the same. I am Canadian and hockey is where it's at. While Chris and I are very devoted to the teams that we love...Chris the Colorado Avalanche and me the Edmonton Oilers, we are very much excited to be in a city where there is a team and we can actually go to games. Although you can be sure we will be planning some road trips to go see the Avs and the Oilers.

I am also excited about a lot of the rule changes and such. Most importantly I am glad they are getting rid of the TIE. Now all games will have a 5 minute overtime, if that doesn't break the tie there will be a shootout. I think shootouts are fun to watch. I am also very happy they are getting rid of the red line to open up the game and let these guys to what they do best. I can't wait, I think it's going to be a better game with all these changes. I think there will be a lot more scoring and therefore making the games more exciting.

Oh and you can be sure that Chris and I will be ordering NHL Center Ice on our satellite as soon as dish network has it set to order!

So for all of you who are hockey fans....GAME ON!!!

Coupon Girl!

You should see my wife. About a week ago, she decided (as she called it, an "executive decision") to get the Boston Globe delivered daily to our house. Which is fine with me, I really don't mind either way. I am basically your typical guy when it comes to the newspaper--I mainly just read the sports section. But anyways, all of the sudden she turned into this quasi-super hero: Coupon Girl! ( I could go another way with this and call her a 60-year old smoker lady with 15 cats that only has coupons to look forward to in her life......but let's stick with the super hero theme. Mainly so she doesn't kill me.)

Coupon Girl's favorite day is obviously Sunday, as that is the day the Globe has all the new weekly coupons! She spends a couple of hours clipping and giggling at the deals she finds. It is quite cute to see it in person. So now, whenever we go anywhere, she's gotta grab her coupons--just in case. Because hey--you just never know when they will come in handy. Ladies Speed Stick deodorant 2-for-1? Heck yeah! Plastic hangers 8-for-$1? Score! Even stuff we wouldn't normally buy, like say for instance, a pack of 16 crayons....if we got a coupon for it, it's ours! (They were 2-for-$1.) Now this is not to say that coupons are stupid, because they do save you money, and sometimes they can be very useful on important items. Now, my wife--oops, sorry--Coupon Girl is not there yet, but she's getting closer to having a little envelope for them and having them all organized, but for now, they are just all piled up, waiting to be used.

I hope that she does eventually get them organized, and we use them wisely. I am starting to realize that food coupons are the most valuable, especially when Coupon Girl doesn't want to cook and I am designated as the food-picker-upper. Subway 2-for-1 tonite, honey? Money.

Fix 'n Mix Your Own Damn Frosty

Chris and I have lived in Boston for 9 1/2 months now and for some strange reason I have never really been downtown. I don't know why, a lot of might be the fact that Chris works down there and he doesn't really want to come home and then go downtown. Lately we have been going to different Starbucks everytime we go and we go often. So last night we decided to go to one right downtown in Faneuil Hall. It was kinda cool, I have never been down there, but it was night and I would like to really go back in the daytime. Anyways check out the website its pretty cool.

So we were on the way home from downtown and we decided we wanted some ice cream, the only thing that was open was the Wendy's drive through. I decided I wanted to try one of those Fix ’n Mix Frosty things. So I order the butterfinger one and when we get up to the window she hands me this cup thingie and a package of crumbled butterfinger bits. Well what the heck, I didn't see anywhere on the menu where it said "YOU Fix 'n Mix Your Own Frosty". And nevermind the fact that there isn't enough room in this stupid little cup they give you to Fix 'n Mix anything. Needless to say I was irritated and had to wait till I got home so I could mix this stupid thing in a bowl. And by that time it was all melted...booooooo!!!!

You Know Its a Bad Game of Scrabble When......

The best word you can come up with is Fart and then later in the game and an S to it to make it Farts! LOL.

We had a pretty laid back weekend, I really can't remember what we did on Friday or Saturday. Sunday we went to church and then went over to Amy and Troy's so Chris could help Troy and some other guys move a couch. Afterwards we hung out and we went to Chili's with Amy and Troy and went back to their place to watch Zoolander and play scrabble. It was the suckiest game of Scrabble EVER. I mean really, it was BAD. Amy and I were spelling such high scoring words as NUT and GUM. My best word of the night was FARTS! LOL! It was pathetic...

Evey's Greatest Brain Farts #4

For those of you who missed #5, please scroll down and find the post titled "Evey's Greatest Brain Farts."

It's true, I have my moments, more often than I would like sometimes. It's really not that I am stupid. It's more the fact that sometimes I just don't think things through all the way before I open my big mouth.

So again Chris was testing me on US geography and this time he was asking me state capitals. I am cruising along naming capitals when he asks me the capital of Arizona. I don't know why but I drew a total blank. I was so stumped, for the life of me I could not think of it. So he starts throwing out all sorts of hints and still I am not picking up on it. Finally I start asking him "what does it start with" and stuff. So he tells me P. I pause to think and I ask him what the next letter is and he says H. Anyways this continued all the way to the letter I. Yes that's right he had spelled out to me P-H-O-E-N-I.......and STILL I could NOT for the life of me tell him what the capital of Arizona was. The thing is, I NEW it, but I think by that point I was obviously delirious and over thinking it way to much that I just couldn't get it. Finally Chris was like "PHOENIX, ITS FREAKING PHOENIX" LOL. Immediately I could not believe my complete state of retardation and then just laughed and laughed for a long time till my stomach hurt.

Stay tuned for the top 3 coming soon.

Date Night

Chris and I decided to go out on a 'date' tonight. So when he got home this evening from work we got ready, locked the dog up in her kennel and we were off. First was a stop at the grocery store for some drinks and snacks for the movie. Then we headed over to this little pizza joint not far from our house. We had never been there and wanted to try it. They had a special on for 2 slices and a pop for 3 bucks so we decided to go for it. It was actually really good. I have found that I would rather have a huge slice from places like that than Pizza Hut or anything. I just think they are so much better. We ate in the car on the way over to the movie theatre and we went and saw War of the Worlds. And yes I know Tom Cruise has been making a huge ass of himself all over the media lately, but he is still a great actor and War of the Worlds was just another example of that. The movie itself was awesome, I am so glad we decided to go see it. Definitely one that needed to be seen in theatres. I always like to see what previews there are as well, we saw a preview tonight for King Kong directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings). It looks awesome, I can't wait.

So that was that, when we got home we took Belle for her walk and now we are watching the baseball game. We would have hit up Starbucks on the way home but they were closed dangit. I wish we had some decaf at home, I would love a cup of joe right now but we only have regular and I would be up ALL night if I drank some at this hour. Alright...That is all!!
When I woke up today I did not excpect to turn my TV and see Breaking News on most channels about the bombings in London this morning. My heart breaks for all those people. I will never understand why people have to do things like this, it makes me sick to my stomach. I sure hope and pray friends and relatives that I have over there are ok. Lets all remember these people and their families in our prayers today.

YUCK!

I saw my first cockroach the other night. Up close and personal....EWWWW! I had only ever seen them in pictures and on TV and stuff. Anyways we had friends over and we were in and out the house, it flew in then. We later found it dead behind our door. I almost vomited, I don't do bugs well and I really don't do big ass nasty ones well. YUCK! Monday night when I went to bed I kept waking up thinking it was going to be lurking near by. LOL. I am so paranoid!

Busy Busy Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend, it was full and very busy but it was great.

Saturday we went to a wedding, it was beautiful. Amy and Troy are friends from church and we were so happy we were able to share their wedding day with them. The ceremony was wonderful, everyone looked gorgeous...None more so than the bride and groom of course. It was nice, after the ceremony we headed outside for some food and sunshine. I did have a few pics to post but for some reason they aren't on the disc, so I need to go back to the photo place and have them redo it.

After we left the wedding Chris had a store he had to go to since he was on call this weekend. After that we headed home to let the dog out and decided to go out and have a nice dinner just the two of us. We went to this restaurant called The Chateau. Chris had steak and I had some yummy chicken. It was so good!

Sunday was kinda a busy day with Chris being on call, but later in the evening we went and had dinner with our friends Jen and Ryan who were visiting this weekend from Seattle. We went to a place in Cambridge called Christophers. It also was very good.

Monday I spent a lot of time out in the yard and Chris had a couple of calls he had to go out on. Jen and Ryan came over for a BBQ, Chris and Ryan bbq'd some steak tips and they were so freaking good. We had a good time, steak, beer and friends. What more do you need. LOL. We decided not to go into the city for the fireworks cause there was just TOO MANY PEOPLE! So we decided to watch them here and afterwards we took Jen and Ryan back to where they were staying.

All in all it was a great weekend, hope all of you had great weekends as well!!

Over Heard at Kohls Tonight

We were shopping tonight at Kohls and they have a lot of really great sales going on right now. This was overheard as we were walking past some cute old ladies...

Cute Old Lady # 1 - "Look at these prices"

Cute Old Lady # 2 - "Yeah, they are pretty good"

Cute Old Lady # 1 - "You can't beat that with a stick"

...For all the Canucks out there Kohls is a department store.
