Is It Just Me?

It seems to me that we are relying more and more on the internet and emailing etc....I seem to have fallen into that trap where I find it so much easier and convenient sometimes to just fire off an email to someone rather than pick up the phone. I am not sure why this is....I guess the way I see it is that it seems so hard to get a hold of people on the phone these days, even those with cell phones. So I figure that if I shoot them an email then they will for surely get it. Right? I am sure part of it is also that it just seems easy....Your already in your email, why pick up the phone? Wrong or right....It doesn't really matter, it's just a trap I seem to fall in to. Anyone else? Or is is just me? The reason I ask is that someone brought this too my attention today and they seemed really annoyed with me over it. It made me feel super bad cause I totally don't mean anything by it ya know? Anywho.......

For me, email is less expensive. However, I am not good at replying to my emails. It's just the day and age we live in I suppose. By the way, what's your phone number...;)

Yes it is just you!
Ha! Just kidding.....it's me too! I have a friend with the same complaint about me! I hate talking on the phone! Especially now with children.... I much prefer to email or MSN and then I can still deal with daily life... I can pause... calm a crying child... and I don't have to worry about what the person on the other end thinks. I also find that my free time doesn't come until 9pm after all the kids are in bed... and I would much rather type an email in quiet than talk on the phone. So... don't call me! Just kidding.... I just find I get caught up in the fact it's easier to email... I can do it at any time of day... don't have to think about time changes.

I do that, but then again everyone knows how much I HATE the phone. So they never expected me to call them anyway.

I do write people real letters sometimes. Its just a nice little thing to get in the mail in addition to emails.

I actually prefer the phone but find that other people do not.

I think there is a problem when we "emailer" types forget that there are "non email" types out there that don't check their email the 100 times a day we do. Jordan and I actually "fight" about who has to do the calling...once the phone call is completed the phoner says "well, you owe a phone call now"

Rather not be on the phone. I can't hear anyways so what's the point. Kids are always bugging me and screaming etc when I am on it so forget it.
Email is MUCH easier because I can get back to you on my own time.
I don't mind talking on the phone though if it is later in the evening.

Telus is running a television commercial suggesting that paying money to them and phoning people is much more "personal" than e-mail or IM. It seems to me, that once upon a time, writing to someone was considered the appropriate and formal communication.

I'm with Tammy, it's less expensive and more convenient; no worries about time zones. If I want to contact a friend in the U.K., I can send an e-mail when the time is good for me and can they can read it at their convenience. I'm also with Tammy at crapping out when it comes to answering my email, but that's another story. ;)

BTW, blogging and blog comments are another easy way to keep in touch with people.

I have the same problem. Since I live so far from all my friends and family email is so much more easier and cheaper. Not to mention I have the time change issue to deal with and the fact I work crazy early hours. I learned really early on that I have to set limits and finally just said if you wish to get ahold of me, drop me an email cause I'm not picking up the phone.
