Boats, Planes and Anniversaries!!

First things first....Our first blog post was a year ago today! Sept 19/2004. It's a little insane how time flies. We have been in Boston a year almost. I sit here and try and figure where it all went, a whole year and it feels like yesterday! Anyways.....

We had the most amazing time last night on out cruise. For those of you who forgot or didn't read my post about it last week....Chris and I went on a Spirit of Boston dinner cruise last night to celebrate our 1 year wedding anniversary which was on Sept 12.

First we found a sweet parking spot which made us super happy cause it was at a meter. We thought we were going to have to park in the lot and pay. So I was very happy with the FREE parking spot:) We got there a little before 5:30pm, got our boarding passes. While we were waiting to board Chris took some pictures of the boat which I will post as soon as I get them back. The boat has 4 levels. There is the bottom level which I think is where the kitchens are and where all the cooking and prep happens. The main level there is tables all around the interior and in the middle is a dance floor (and DJ) and at the front is the buffet and in the back is the bar. There level above that has a staircase leading up to it just off the dance floor and there is a bunch more tables up there. The 4th level is the outside deck on the top of the boat.

Once we got inside and were showed to our table we went out to check out the top outside deck and took a few pictures and then went back inside and sat and munched on the rolls and breadsticks etc.. that were on our table. It was about a half hour or so when I all of a sudden noticed we were backing up. It was a pretty weird feeling at first sitting on a boat at a table. I was convinced my water and everything else was going to go flying. When we we were done backing out and facing the right way we were off. Within about 5 minutes our waiter brought us our salads. Which were super yummy by the way. Reminded me a lot of Olive Garden salad. As we were eating our salad 2 of the hostesses and another guy were on the dance floor singing their hearts out and sending us on our way. At the end of the song we had these streamers we were all to throw in the air and yell "Bon Voyage". Well let's just say I TRIED but my stupid streamer didn't want to be part of the fun.

The boat sets off right near Logan International Airport...so we went out to the top deck again after our salad and watched the planes fly over to land. And when I say fly over, I really mean FLY OVER, like RIGHT above us. Chris took some pics of how close the planes were, and they too will get posted once I get them back.

Dinner was AMAZING!!! Roast Beef, ham, teriyaki chicken, rice, vegetables, muscles, crabmeat, potatoes, lasagna. I didn't eat any of the seafood (cause i'm sorry but muscles look WRONG) or the ham (since I am allergic) but the rest was SO good. There was some more stuff, but off the top of my head I cannot remember. After dinner we decided to have a few drinks. Chris of course just went with beer, he had a Sam Adams and I had a YUMMY drink called Raspberry Fusion. If I remember correctly it had Absolut Raspberry vodka, some citrusy stuff, sprite and one other thing I forget. It was very good! Soon came dessert which was just as good. I had the Creme brulee Cheesecake and Chris had the Chocolate Truffle Layer Cake. By the time we ate those we were both stuffed. So we sat for a while and watched as some of the staff sang and put on a show for us. Afterwards Chris ordered himself another beer and I had a Hpnotiq Cosmopolitan. It has been probably a year since I have had a martini of any kind and I love Cosmos. It was SO good, it better have been good...it was 10 bucks. lol.

Anyways it was a wonderful night...singing, dancing, beautiful weather, great food, great drinks. We also purchased the picture they take of you as you are boarding and got this great little folder/frame thing with it.

On another note. Hubby is now on his way too Seattle. Curtis picked us up at 8 this morning to take us too the airport. I waited with Chris while he checked in and until he had to go through security. I was very sad to see him go. It's funny how once you live with someone for a certain period of time you are so used to having them around, it makes me wonder how I lived alone! ha. Anyways I gave him a great big hug and watched and waited when he went through security. I then headed over to the other terminal to get some Starbucks and wait to watch his plane take off. It ended up being delayed....but I waited anyways. Every since I was a kid I loved just sitting and watching the planes land and take off. Yet I am terrified to fly in one! ha! So anywho he called me when they landed in Chicago and they are set to land in Seattle now in about 2 hours and 20 mins. Fun times! I miss him, but so glad he gets to go and have some time with his fam (especially his nephews) and his best friend Shawn.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Other than the cruise we watched Fever Pitch with some friends Friday, Saturday in the day we grocery shopped, did laundry, went shopping for clothes and stuff. The went out to dinner and a movie with friends. We saw the Constant Gardener. I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it was such a good movie.

Alright that is all....sorry this was so long, but if you have suffered through it all leave us a comment, let us know you stopped by! Have a good one!

Oh and here are some pics I found of line of the inside of the boat and stuff.

My Husband the Coffee Bean

My husband cracks me up sometimes....this was a good one so I had to share. As most of you know Chris has worked for Starbucks for the last 3 1/2 years. The first 2 1/2 was spent in Seattle working at the Corporate office directing calls between the technicians and the stores. This past year he has been here in Boston as a technician. Anyways, among our family and friends Chris and I are known as the "coffee" people. People generally know that where we go there is a good chance a pound of Starbucks coffee follows. Anyways I was signed into msn messenger, he signed in from work and I hear my computer telling me someone is trying to talk to me. And this is what he said....

Chris says:
hello. it is i, the great macchiato.

LOL.....maybe its just me...but I thought this was super funny!

Stuff Stuff n more Stuff....

I forgot to mention the other day that when we were out watching the Seahawks game that we ended paying TWELVE dollars for pop. I know I know, living on the east coast I am supposed to say soda, but I refuse to give in;) Now I understand that some places charge for refills, what I don't understand is why our waiter never told us that. Usually when you ask for another pop if they charge the waiter will be like "just so you know we charge for those", well I was so mad. 12 bucks......that's madness. Had we known we would have only had one pop each instead of three and drank water.

Have I mentioned how super excited I am for fall. Don't get me wrong, I love summer...BUT I love fall. I love how all the trees look, especially here, I love going for walks in parks and crunching all the leaves when you step. I especially love the cold and crisp air on some fall mornings. I cannot wait to take pictures of how beautiful fall is here. I remember when we drove out here last year it was right at the end of September and all the trees were already turning gorgeous, it was amazing. People had always told me how beautiful New England was in the fall, but I never really fully knew what they meant till I saw it for myself.

Have I also mentioned how super excited I am for hockey to start!? Pre-season starts tomorrow night with the Oil at home against the Flames. And we finally re-signed Ryan Smyth which I was starting to get really worried about. But all is good.

I need to go out and by something new to wear Sunday night....AND I forgot to blog about the Old Navy gift card I found in the pocket of a coat I haven't worn in sometime. Christmas 2003 I received a CD and a gift card for Old Navy from Chris's aunt and uncle. I spent some of the gift card and then I lost it. I was so mad....well the other day I was going through some stuff and I decided I wanted to try on my leather jacket to see if it fits me again. And wouldn't you know it, I put it on and when I put my hand in the left pocket there was that darn old navy gift card! I called the number on the back right away to see how much money was left on it. $10.50, yipee! It's like finding lost money. As far as the coat goes, I still have a little ways to go before it fits...BOOOOOO:(

Hope everyone is having a great week!!

Happy Anniversary!!!

To me and my wonderful hubby! Yep it's true, today was our 1 year anniversary....and I still haven't killed him so that must be a good sign right!? ;) But really he is so very very wonderful and I am SO BLESSED to have such a wonderful man in my life and I love him with all my heart!

For our anniversary we decided to go on one of those Spirit of Boston dinner cruises that Chris went on with his work a little while ago. But it turns out if we wait till next week we can get a 2 for 1 deal, who wants to pass that up?? Not me! So we are going on that next Sunday night (the 18th), I am SO excited. It's a 3 hour cruise in and around Boston harbor, dinner and dancing etc. It's going to be a good time! But we still wanted to go somewhere for dinner on our actual anniversary so we decided to go to Red Robin in Manchester Connecticut. They don't have any in Massachusetts and it sucks cause it's one of our fav restaurants. Manchester is right on the outskirts of Hartford and is about an hour and a half drive from us. So might not sound very romantic but like I said we don't get to go there often and we are going on the dinner cruise next week. After dinner we headed to Starbucks (go figure) and I tried a Pumpkin Spice Latte and it was SO yummy. I think that may be my new favorite for a while.

My weekend did end much better than it started.....Saturday night Chris and I stayed home and watched some movies. If you are a wine drinker I highly suggest watching Sideways. It was so good, much better of a movie than I thought it was going to be. We watched it while we drank a nice bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon. We also watched Hitch which was pretty funny. Kevin James is always good for a laugh!

Sunday after church we headed out to a sports bar called the Sports Depot
to watch the Seattle Seahawks game. This place was cool...they have like 63 big flat screen tvs. There was about 10 different football games on and fans of all sorts. Fun times! Well aside from the fact that the Hawks turned the ball over FOUR freaking times and ended up losing 26-14 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. But the food was good and at least we got to watch the game. That may be where we end up most Sunday afternoons for the games unless we find somewhere better.

With that I am off to bed!!

Sleep???? Who needs it....

Ok so if you notice the time I am writing this it is LATE or early I suppose, whichever way you want to look at it. My clock currently says 3:04 AM, and WHY am I awake at 3 AM you ask??? Well I really don't know. I cannot sleep..Why? I am not totally sure. It could be the fact that my allergies are doing a number on me lately and I am miserable, or it could be the fact that we went out for dinner tonight for some friends Bdays. What I thought was going to be a fun time turned out being rather crappy. It's a long story, one I don't feel like going into. Plus I don't want to sound stupid considering tonight probably wasn't really as bad as I thought it was...but that big bad word INSECURITY tells me otherwise. Anyways....

I thought I should update on the Belle/Camping chairs situation...lol. So last night Chris and I again are in bed ASLEEP when Belle got all bent out of shape again over the stupid chairs, and started barking and freaking out. She did not calm down till she knew the chairs were put away and far from where they could apparently harm her. ALSO she seems to have regular showdowns with the heater in our kitchen....if her ball gets to close to it she will not get it, she will bark until one of us come and get it for her. And most of the time when she walks by it she stops to look at it as if its going to jump out at her. Gotta love dogs!!

Alright, that is all I need to try and get some sleep if I am going to get anything useful accomplished tomorrow! Happy weekending to everyone, hopefully mine will end better than it started.

Hockey, Football and Chick Flicks

I am not sure if I have mentioned this yet but Chris is going to Seattle for a week this month for some training on some new machines. I have NO IDEA what the heck I am going to do for a whole week by myself. For starters we don't have a car. We decided not to get one when we moved out here cause Chris has his own work vehicle. Most times I am thankful we don't have a car because of the outrageous gas prices this last year, but times like this is when I really really wish we had one. Don't get me totally wrong, I look forward to time to do whatever I want, watch all the chick flicks I want etc... But lets face it I'm gonna miss him. And nevermind the BORED factor.

On to more important things...

Hockey is starting very very soon and I could not be more excited. I mean aside from the fact we had to go a whole year without it, this will be the first time in a couple of years I have lived in a hockey city of a team I actually like. Don't get me wrong I am a die hard Oilers fan and always will be. When I moved to Vancouver BC it sucked cause I HATE THE CANUCKS so very much and I never wanted to spend money to go to any of their games. The only games I went to there were when the Oilers were in town and then when I started dating Chris when the Avalanche were in town. Of course there is no pro hockey team in Seattle so that really sucked. But now here we are in Boston, a hockey city...A team I like and am happy to pay to go see play. However I am very UNHAPPY with the hockey schedule and the fact that not once do the Oilers come here this year. However we will be going to some games in New York, New Jersey, Philadelphia etc... to go to both Oil and Avalanche games. October 5th will start as a very happy day at our house being that that's NHL opening night, but one of us will end up going to bed unhappy as Edmonton and Colorado play each other that night:) It is my hope that I will be the one going to bed happy that night, but we shall see.

For my two lovely blogging friends from Vancouver I hope with all my heart that the Oilers will kick some serious butt against your Canuckleheads. And if we don't I still love you just the same. LOL.

We are also pretty happy that the NFL season kicks off tonight, with the Mariners SUCKING with the worst of the baseball world we are looking forward to football and the Seahawks as well as hockey. And yes in case you haven't guessed Chris and I are both sports nuts.

My Dog...Sometimes I Just Shake My Head

My dog really is "special" sometimes. So last night at 3 AM Chris and I are awakened by Belle half standing, half crouching in the middle of the floor barking at something in the corner. We turn the light on thinking that maybe we had another mouse, except she was acting all scared and cowering away. She would creep over here towards the computer and the jump back and bark. We were baffled as to what her problem was. Finally Chris went over and moved our 2 camping chairs that were standing in the corner folded up in their bags. As soon as Chris picked them up Belle scurried away. Chris put them in the closet and she climbed into bed and laid down and was fine. So tell me this....Why have they been in the same place for TWO WEEKS and just now she decided they were bothering her or scaring her. She has a few screws loose if you ask me...But I love her anyways, she's my baby no matter how retarded she may seem at times! LOL

On another note Chris and I watched Sahara on Sunday night. I wasn't totally sure that I would really like it, turns out I did. We both really enjoyed it. I like movies that have adventure and action and comedy all together. Steve Zahn always cracks me up. So yeah, I would recommend it. But if you go out and rent it and don't like it don't come yelling at me. To each their own;)

Please Just Revoke All Their Drivers Licenses!!!

Driving in Massachusetts and especially Boston is always somewhat of a challenge. People just plain can't drive here, it's a proven fact. Not only can they not drive but they are rude as all get out. Boston is a beautiful city, but if I have learned anything it's that people here just aren't very friendly. Add that to bad driving and it just isn't a good combination. Ok so on every highway and freeway etc.. There is the shoulder/breakdown lane...Whatever you want to call it. Now it has always seemed to me that the whole point of it in the first place is a safe place to stop out of the way of traffic in case of a BREAKDOWN and or other emergency where you need to pull off the road and out of the way of traffic. WELL....The geniuses who make the road rules out here decided that it would be ok for people to DRIVE in the shoulder during certain times of the day. Now this confuses me to no end, WHERE DO YOU GO IF YOU BREAKDOWN???? Well you certainly cannot pull over to the right like you normally would cause you would get railed by some dumbass driving in that lane cause he thinks it gets him somewhere faster. Not only is there that aspect of it, it is just scary in general. I mean trying to exit off the freeway when you have to worry about some retard barreling into you from something that isn't even a lane in the first place is a challenge in itself. And really, can you please tell me what RETARD thought this would be a good idea?! Too the point where it is actually allowed and there are signs stating so!! It baffles me, I mean doesn't it defeat the whole purpose of the "breakdown" lane?!

Here is a little something I found poking fun at the driving here in Boston. Sadly, it's all true!!

DRIVING IN BOSTON

Basic Rules for Driving in Boston:

-- Never take a green light at face value. Always look right and left before proceeding.
-- When on a one way street, stay to the right to allow traffic to pass coming the other direction.
-- Taxicabs should always be given the right of way, unless you are bent on suicide.
-- Never, ever, stop for a pedestrian unless he flings himself under the wheels of your car. Most multicar pileups are caused this way.
-- Double-park in the North End of Boston, unless triple-parking is available.
-- Always look both ways when running a red light.
-- It is traditional in Boston to honk your horn at cars that don't move the instant the light changes. Color doesn't matter.
-- Never put your faith in signs that purport to provide directions. They are put there to confuse people who don't know their way around the city. And to confuse those who do but are detoured by the Big Dig.
-- Use extreme caution when pulling into breakdown lanes. Breakdown lanes are not for breaking down, but for speeding, especially during rush hour. Breakdown lanes may also end without warning causing traffic jams as people merge back in.
-- The yellow light is not, as commonly supposed outside the Boston area, a signal to slow down. It is a warning to speed up and get through the intersection before the light turns red. As a result, yellow lights only light for a quarter of a second.
-- In making a left turn from the right lane, employ the element of surprise. That is, do it as suddenly as possible, so as to stun other drivers. Crossing entire 4 lane roads in one block always gains the respect and salutes.
-- Speed limits are arbitrary figures posted only to make you feel guilty.
-- Whenever possible, stop in the middle of a crosswalk to ensure inconveniencing as many pedestrians as possibble.
-- Remember that the goal of every Boston driver is to get there first, by whatever means necessary.

Just for Mike:)

Lets Go OILERS!!

Gee guys I didn't know you were Oilers fans. NICE Jerseys girls;)

Friday, September 02, 2005

I have been asked by some what my and the hubby are up to this weekend so I thought that I would share the exciting plans we have with you all. NOTHING!! LOL. We are doing nothing. Chris is in need of some serious couch time so as not to aggravate his knee. That and he is a little loopy from the percocet so its probably best we stay home! haha!

I Think My Dog is "Special"

So my dog spent the better part of an hour this evening pushing her bed all over the living room. At each stop she made along the way she clawed at it as if she were fluffing a pillow. Then she would lay down for about 30 seconds before she was back up and pushing her bed to its next destination. I don't know why, and I don't think she knows why. It was definitely entertaining.

Let the Cutting Begin...and end...QUICKLY!!

I know you all want stories of blood and horror and havoc from Chris's knee surgery today. But I am sorry to say I do not have that....

We arrived at the surgery center shortly after 11:45am, after Chris filled out some paper work it was another 30 minutes or more before they took him in. They came for him around 12:30. I had brought my book and a magazine so the wait wasn't so bad, plus there was a TV as well. It was about 2 hours before the nurse came to get me to go sit with Chris until they decided he could go. All went well, we are home now after a stop at the pharmacy to get his painkillers. The local anesthetic on his knee has yet to wear off, the doctor told him there will be a good half hour of throbbing once it does. So anyways lots of icing it and painkillers, he will start physical therapy next week and back to work on Wednesday. Our only hope is that he doesn't get an infection, when he broke his left elbow he ended up with an infection that resulted in a week in the hospital. Anyways as for now all is well and he is glad its done and over with. And I am off to make dinner!!

Chris was on call this past weekend so as usual that meant sticking close to home. I really can't even remember what we did on Friday, if anything. Saturday was spent working around here, we were supposed to go to a friends house warming party but Chris ended up getting a call and most of our evening was spent doing that. Normally on the weekends when Chris is on call I will go with him. I don't mind cause I get free drinks at Starbucks and it gives me time to catch up on any reading I might be in the middle of. Sunday we were getting ready for church when Chris got another call that he couldn't put off as both of their machines were down. So I crawled back into bed and he was gone at that store for around 3 hours. Later in the evening we went to a BBQ at Jeff and Carolynne's. It was our "post season bbq" for all the softball folk. Good times, almost all the guys showed up that were on the team except one who moved and another who just couldn't make it. Chris was pleasantly surprised to find out that Jeff had blown up a team picture and had all the guys sign it and also gave him a softball signed by all the guys in one of those little cases. A thank you for getting the team together and dealing with it all. Fun times. That was our weekend, nothing too exciting.

Chris has his knee surgery tomorrow afternoon and he just found out this morning he is going to Seattle Sept 19-23 for training on some new machines. Fun for him cause he gets to spend some time with his fam and with Shawn and Celeste. I wish I could go but it's a little too short notice for us to fork up the money for a plane ticket for me. That and we aren't prepared to pay for boarding for the dog for a week.

I know I have been saying this a lot lately but the weeks are flying by right now. I cannot believe that tomorrow is September 1st. INSANE! And never mind the weeks flying by, this last year has gone by so fast. Our one year anniversary is coming up on September 12 and we have lived in Boston now for almost a year. I sit here trying to figure out where this last year has gone. For the most part it has been a great year for both Chris and myself. But how it has gone by this stinking fast is beyond me.

Just for fun

I was bored, so I made this little quiz about me on Bebo.com. So if you want click here and check it out and see how you do :)

Boy Was I MAD!!!

Last night Chris and I went grocery shopping. We got their around 7 and they don't close till 11. Now, All of their specials and sales go from Friday to Thursday every week. Chris and I made our way around the grocery store filling up our cart and being sure to take advantage of a lot of the deals. I love when there are good deals cause we end up getting much more than usual and for a much better price. Anyways we finally finish and get to the checkout only to find out that ALL the so called sale prices that we THOUGHT we were getting were in fact not in effect until today. WHAT!?!?!?!?? See, somehow they figured it would be ok to change ALL their tags at 7pm when they were open for FOUR more hours and somehow all of us shoppers were supposed to just know. Boy was I seeing red. When I worked at a grocery store they had 3 or 4 people work overnight once a week for the purpose of changing all the price tags. It really makes NO logical sense whatsoever to do that when they are still open and there are unsuspecting shoppers.

I cannot believe that it is Friday again already, I don't know where the time is going lately. Chris is on call this weekend so we won't be straying to far from home. Although we do have a housewarming party to go to tomorrow night and on Sunday evening we have a BBQ to go to.

That is all.....Have a great weekend!

Wednesday, August 24, 2005

We have a room that is quite small so we use it more as a closet. Anyways we started putting Belle in there with the light off when she was bad. At first she would bark and scratch at the door, but the more we put her in there the less we heard her. One day as Chris and I were doing things around the house we couldn't find her , we looked everywhere not thinking of the room where she goes when she is bad. Finally we looked there, and wouldn't you know it there she was all curled up sound asleep in the laundry basket. Little bugger, she freaking likes it in there! Ha! Needless to say she now goes in the bathroom with the light off when she is bad, and believe me she HATES it.

Friday Already????

Can someone tell me where this week went? Cause before I blinked last it was Monday and now it's Friday. Crazy!

I made the YUMMIEST asparagus beef stirfry last night, it was grub! Just thought you should all know that.

So Chris tore his Medial meniscus and is having arhtroscopic knee surgery on Sept 1st. I am not really sure it qualifies as "surgery" considering it takes all of 10 minutes and he gets to watch the whole thing.

Have I mentioned lately I am going to the Caribbean in only 9 1/2 months??? YAAAAAAAY!

One other thing, I REALLY want to see this March of the Penguins movie. Although I am sure Chris already knew due to the fact I get excited everytime I see the previews for it he laughed at me. He claimed he only laughed cause he thinks its "cute" that I get like that when I see it. Anyways he says there are a ton of other movies he would rather see. Well then POOP on him, I will go by myself. LOL. Cause I love animals and I love Penguins and I am going to go see it darnit.

So there ya have it, random rambling for a Friday. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Oh and I had to post this pic cause it totally made me laugh, Andrea sent it to me after she saw it on ebay...What will people think of next. Its a freaking water bowl in the shape of a toilet. LOL

Farewell to Lester....

BEFORE

After months and months of evading we THINK we got him. You see we strategically placed traps down here in our place and upstairs in our landlords kitchen. Somehow this mouse or mice were not getting caught in the traps but eating the food. Anyways Monday morning Alex calls downstairs to us saying she got one in one of the traps upstairs. It turned out NOT to be Lester as Lester was fat and this one was not. Hmmmmm. so we had more than one...Lovely. They tried to convince me to come see it but really a dead mouse is not the first thing I want to see in the morning. But don't worry both Alex and Chris were sure to tell me how the trap got the little guy right across the face and one of his eyes were bulging out. LOL. YUM!! We left all the other traps out and sure enough a few hours later Alex came home from the store and again yelled down to me that she got another and she was sure it was Lester. Again I did not go see it. But apparently the fat bugger got himself caught but somehow managed to get out of the trap and crawl a little away. Tough guy, but not tough enough as he was found dead with blood coming out of his head!

See you all missed me SO much, I bet you are wishing I hadn't shown up this morning to tell you this story in such great detail:) I figure if I had to hear about it then so did you. Alright so it's been two days and we have not seen or heard a thing. So my guess is it was only the two. Maybe they were boyfriend and girlfriend and they were shacking up. HA! Well whatever they were, they are no longer.

I should make a point of saying these pictures aren't actually Lester...just a representation of that fateful morning:)

AFTER

I Think We Will Name Him Lester....

So we checked all 3 mouse traps last night and all three had the peanut butter gone but NO mouse. That's right, he ate it and went on his merry little way. I really think we have the smartest mouse on the planet living here.

Chris and Evey's Caribbean Getaway

What are these pictures below you ask? They are pictures of the beautiful island of St Lucia.

Chris and I are taking a wonderful vacation next June to the Caribbean. The honeymoon we never had if you will. We fly out of Boston at 7:30 AM on June 24th and return on July 1st. We will be staying at one of the Sandals all-inclusive resorts. Most likely Halcyon Beach. The cool thing is that there are three Sandals resorts on St Lucia within close distance of each other. If you stay at one you get to "play at three." So we will have the choice of 14 or so restaurants as opposed to only the three at our resort. Also the use of all the other facilities at the other resorts. I am very excited about the all-inclusive thing and the idea of not having to worry about how much money we have left etc. Some of the things included in the all inclusive package are....

All meals, anytime snacks, fine dining
Unlimited premium drinks
Scuba diving
Golf
Sailing, water skiing, snorkeling & more
Land sports
Tips & gratuities

I could not be more excited about this trip. I have never really been anywhere outside of Canada or the United States. Well except of course the fact that I spent the first three years of my life in Scotland. I just have never really travelled anywhere. A lot of that might be due to the fact I am terrified of flying. But the thought of white sand, blue ocean and being able to sit on a stool in a pool drinking margaritas just may get me over my fear very quickly.

We really had NO plans to take a vacation like this until last Saturday. Last year Chris's sister Alicia and her husband Paul got some free vouchers through US Airways because the airline had screwed up their flights. The vouchers were good for roundtrip flights anywhere in the US, Mexico and the Caribbean. Alicia and Paul were heading to LAX on Saturday to cash in 2 of the vouchers for their vacation next summer. They offered the other 2 to us since they had to be used by Tuesday or they would become void. So we thought about it, talked about it and decided we would use the tickets. We quickly looked at places in the Caribbean and decided on St Lucia. Chris called Alicia and when they were at the airport booking their flights they also booked ours. So thank you to A and P for such a wonderful opportunity.

The first pic below is a map of the Island, if you click on it and enlarge it look to the top left of the map. Just north of the capital city of Castries is Choc Bay. Choc Bay is where Halcyon Beach is located.

IT LIVES!!!!

What does it take to kill a mouse?? I mean really...we have done EVERYTHING!! It evades traps, it apparently is immune to mouse and rat poison. After months of thinking we were rid of this creature we couldn't be more wrong. It is 3:30 AM and we have been kept up all night by this STUPID mouse squeaking and running around in our ceiling for ours. If I get my hands on this little bugger he will be begging for just a mouse trap.

The McClees Family

From left to right is Chris, Me, Grandpa McClees and his wife Char, John and Linda (Chris's parents), Trevor is standing in front of Linda, Alicia, Paul, Grandma and Grandpa Williams, Andrea, Bryan (Chris's bro) and Gavin in the front.

So this is a pic from Alicia's (Chris's sister) wedding June 27/04. She sent me this pic the other day and I think its awesome. It's rare you get a pic of this many people that actually looks good.
I have been getting the what for from some of ya'll as to why I have not been blogging much as of late. I really do not have a good excuse other than I simply don't always feel like blogging just for the sake of blogging, I sometimes would like to actually have something interesting to say. But exciting or not here I am and here I shall ramble for a bit:)

We had a pretty uneventful weekend. The guys had their last softball game Friday which they wussed out on cause the field was wet. They didn't want to "hurt" themselves for the upcoming playoffs. So we all headed out to "Wild Willie's" for some burgers. And good burgers they were. My allergies have been pretty bad lately so I felt like crap most of the weekend and we pretty much stayed home. Today I went to the church to help Amy paint what used to be the nursery and will soon be the new office. We went over to another friends for dinner and then we went and met Chris so he didn't have to come all the way to pick me up. And that's that, like I said...pretty uneventful.

The Spirit of Boston

So the other night I had the privilege of going on a harbor dinner cruise with my Starbucks co-workers (or "partners" in Starbucks-speak.) We rode on the beautiful Spirit of Boston through the harbor and back. The ship departed at 7, and returned at 10. I'll try to rate everything we had--just because I want to.

Once we were all on the boat, we all got to relax on the top deck and take in the view of the city from the dock and have a drink. Quite nice. Once the ship departed, we went inside and were seated at our first-class tables which entailed waiter service, free appetizers, free drinks, pretty much free everything.

First off we were served this huge platter of lobster and shrimp with cocktail sauce....whoop-dee-do. As most of you know I am deathly allergic to all fish, so this wasn't the highlight of the night. There were other appetizers, however, so I partook of those to my heart's content. Beef Wellington wrapped in pastry dough, mini spring rolls, and all sorts of rolls and breads. Mmmmmm. 8 out of 10.

Now once the appetizers were finished, on came the salads. Nothing special here, just your basic garden salad with Italian dressing. 6 out of 10.

The buffet dinner was another thing. Roast beef, sesame teriyaki chicken, other lobster and fish, baby red potatoes, sauteed veggies, etc, etc. My first plate included beef, steamed rice, green beans, and two pieces of teriyaki chicken. Super good. I'd give the beef 7.5 out of 10, only because it didn't cut easily with a butter knife, which it should. The chicken was outstanding--10 out of 10. The veggies were very good, 8 out of 10. My second dish was mainly steamed rice with three pieces of the chicken (they weren't that big, although I am a fatty.)

Now throughout the salad and dinner, of course the drinks were flowing like water.
"I'm talkin' about a place where the beer flows like wine, where the women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano..." 11 out of 10.

Also, there was live entertainment, and it included three singers--two females and one guy. They were OK, but not great. 5 out of 10.

Finally came the dessert--we had a choice between chocolate mousse cake or creme brulee cheesecake. I went with the cheesecake. Good choice. 9 out of 10.

We continued to party and the dance floor opened up, but most of us went outside to relax. It was a beautiful night, warm enough to not need a jacket, but not too hot. We continued drinking and having a great time until we arrived back at the dock at 10 PM. After that, we boarded our shuttle bus back to the Boston Park Plaza Hotel, which Starbucks put us up in for one night. Very plush. Heck, I didn't mind at all. Now, it did suck not having Evey there, and my opinion is that Starbucks should include spouses in activities like that, but it wasn't my call.

I would rate the evening very nice overall--an 8.5 out of 10.

So as you can see the bogeyman did NOT get me the other night. I survived and am here to tell about it. I will let Chris post later about his night out the other night, I will say though that he had a good time.

Chris had an MRI today, he will find out the results on Tuesday. So until then he will continue to lay on the couch and ice it lots. Good thing he actually took some vacation time so he doesn't have to work till Wednesday. We were gonna go camping this weekend, but for the sake of Chris's knee we thought it would be better we don't go. The guys have their last softball game tonight (before the playoffs of course), Chris obviously is not playing. Of course he will still be there as he is the coach and all.

I have yet to decide if I will venture out to the game tonight, my allergies have gone mad and my acid reflux is doing a number on me right now. So in other words I feel like C-R-A-P!! That along with the fact benadryl is the only thing that even remotely helps my allergies and it just makes me feel like I am in a fog. Time to go back to the doctor and get something figured out.

Evey's Relaxing Evening

As stated in my previous post, my lovely hubby is off for the night staying at a fancy schmancy hotel with work. I am a little jealous about the dinner cruise he went on etc..HOWEVER..I have had a wonderful night to myself. A great bottle of wine, a great book and of course some yummy ice cream. It's been a very relaxing and refreshing night. Had some lovely phone calls with my dad and my big brother. And my sister in law and both of my nephews. Now if I could only get to sleep....hmmmm maybe I shouldn't have had that coke an hour ago. OOPS!

Evey+Big House+All Alone=SCARY!!!!

Well my hubby has left me for the day and night:( He has some meetings all day today and then this evening they are going on a dinner cruise and then he is staying at the Boston Park Plaza Hotel. And where will I be you ask??? I will be here at home eating hot dogs for dinner!! Am I bitter...YES!

You see, at his work Christmas party spouses were not allowed to come. And now this, good grief you think if they can afford to put them up in that hotel that they can afford to splurge for 10 or so more people for dinner. On top of all of it I am fraidy cat and I don't want to spend the night here alone. Normally it wouldn't bother me but we live in the basement suite of a very large old house. Normally my landlords would be home but they are out of town this week. So they are gone, Chris will be gone and its just me and my dog:( And never mind the fact that the power has been going out a lot lately. That's all I need for the power to go out, I think I would actually pee my pants if that happened while I was here alone late at night.

On another note I am extremely excited cause it seems as though the Edmonton Oilers have acquired and signed Chris Pronger to a FIVE year deal. Yeah yeah I know, many of you don't know who he is or care for that matter, but I CARE...And he is arguably one of the best defenseman in the NHL!

That is all....Oh wait no it isn't. Chris has an appt tomorrow for an MRI so we can find out what he actually did to his knee. Our fingers are crossed it's nothing major and something that will just heal on its own. Ok now that is all!!

The Walking Injury

Let me preface this post by saying that everybody says I shouldn't play sports because I tend to hurt myself too much. They're probably right.

So last night was our seventh game in our softball season. Heading into it we sat at 5-1, in third place. The team we played was 6-0 and tied for first. Basically as Evey said, they were a bunch of loud-mouthed cocky guys from the Army, who CLEARLY could not deal with getting their arses kicked all over the field. We shellacked them 21-11. It wasn't even close.

Now comes the bad part....during the 3rd inning, I was playing third base. A ball was hit to my left and I moved laterally to get to it, and.....POP! The inside of my left knee popped. Bad. I wasn't one of those normal pops. The weird thing was when I moved to scoop the grounder, it wasn't a violent, quick move...I just kinda shuffled to my left. I felt to me like I tore my MCL (the inside tendon). Looking back on it now, I foolishly chose to keep playing--but I moved over to first base to limit my movements so I wouldn't hurt it more. So today is mostly laying on the couch, icing, relaxing and elevating. I am not sure yet if I want to go to the hospital...we'll see how it feels tomorrow.

I will miss our last game, and I most likely will miss the playoffs too. Which totally bums me out, because we are playing so well, and also because I enjoy playing with the team. Not to brag or anything, but I can play pretty well. So I guess we'll see what happens.
First of all I want someone to tell me why people in the entire city of Boston and surrounding area CANNOT drive! It's scary, I mean if I told you half the things people do here in regards to driving you probably wouldn't believe me. After being here 9 months the stupidity of people still amazes me. Some people may argue with me that drivers in New York or LA are worse. My argument in that is that there is really no comparison in New York city cause there is a bazzilion more cars, so of course they are going to be worse. Los Angeles on the other hand I really don't think are worse. Sure I don't drive there all the time, but in L.A it's really more that people drive fast. Here they are just plain stupid. And it's darn scary!!

Onto other things...Amy and Troy and Becca and Travis came over for dinner before the softball game last night. My dog had 'people overload' and was stinking excited. At least she calms down after a few minutes. Either that or waits for Chris to lay down the law, then she knows its time to take it down a notch.

The guys played their 7th game last night, going into it they were 5 and 1, and the team they were playing were 6 and 0. The team they played ended up being a bunch of LOUD and OBNOXIOUS army guys. One of the guys was SO LOUD I wanted to throw something at him to shut him up. And he was just an ass, for example..They didn't really get anything good going off of Troy who pitches for us until the 7th inning. Then he was like "what happened pitcher you were good 1 through 6" blah blah blah! Then he was making fun of Chris...Chris hurt himself in the later part of the game, I will let him blog about that but let's just hope and pray it's no big deal and not a torn MCL like he thinks it is. Anyways they were just a bunch of jerks, but the good news is that we beat them 21-11:) And now we are 6 and 1 and tied for second place. Although I guess that depends on whether the 1st place team won last night or not we may be all 3 tied for 1st.

Today will be a lazy Saturday, especially with Chris's knee out of commission for the time being. Good thing we got 2 new movies from Netflix in the mail today!!

The Struggle for Power......

Wouldn't ya know it, Chris and I get home last night and about 20 mins later the freaking power went out AGAIN! But first......

Chris took me up to meet Amy in Cambridge yesterday. Amy and I went for lunch to a place called "Not Your Average Joes." I had never been there before and it was really good. After lunch we picked up Travis and headed over to help a couple who just moved here move some stuff into their apartment. When I say just moved here I really mean JUST! They had arrived in Boston around 11 yesterday morning after driving 3 or so days from Oklahoma. Anyways we waited for Chris to show up and help the guys move a gargantuan couch. It was pretty entertaining, I think it took them a half hour just to get the couch through the first door in the building. Fun times!

After we got their stuff moved in and waited for AAA to come and unlock the moving van so Bryan(new guy) could get into it since he locked the keys in there! Ha! By this time Becca and Troy had joined us since they had since gotten off of work. Chris and I led Katie and Bryan to the moving truck place so they could return it and get their car. Then we all headed over to Amy and Troys for pizza. John and Kelly also joined us. Poor Troy, he gets off work to find out EIGHT people are coming over for dinner! HA! Anyways after dinner Katie and Bryan headed home and the rest of us went to see Batman Begins. Too my pleasant surprise it was an EXCELLENT movie! Chris and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was a little wary about seeing it just because other than the original Batman with Michael Keaton I have thought all the Batman movies were STUPID! This on the other hand was totally different from the rest and very very good.

By the time we got home it was almost midnight, Belle had energy to kill and we also had to go up and let the dogs upstairs out cause they were gone away for the night. We get back inside and downstairs, I had just connected to the computer to check email and DARKNESS! It's getting old people...I mean really! How many times are we going to lose power. I don't know what the heck could have caused it this time because it was far from being hot today! It didn't last for long this time, maybe an hour at the most. But then when we woke up this morning our clock was flashing, which means the power went out again while we were sleeping. ARGH! Driving me NUTS!

Alright, that is all. I need to get stuff done, Amy and Troy and maybe Becca and Travis are coming over to eat before tonight's softball game!

Just a Few Things

I cannot believe I totally forgot to write about the funniest thing that happened at the beach the other day. So we had JUST got there, like not even two minutes. Chris sat down on the blanket, leaned back and then immediately got CRAPPED on by a Seagull! HAHAHAHA! It was SO funny. Big old poop mark on his shirt.

On another note the NHL released the upcoming seasons schedule yesterday. Now if you know Chris and I you know how devoted we are to our hockey teams. A reminder incase you all forget Chris is an Avalanche fan and me an Oilers fan. It always happens we play each other a lot during the season cause we are in the same division, well this year we play each other more often cause they are really focusing on divisional matchups. And wouldn't you know it, October 5th which is opening night....Colorado is AT Edmonton. WOOHOOOO! Should be an interesting night at out house. Someone will be going to bed pissed off! LOL

I Wish the Power Would Stop Going Out

It has been really hot and humid here again lately, as it has been everywhere. Anyways we have no A/C so it gets pretty hot in here at times. Well last night just as we were getting ready to go walk the dog around 9pm the power went out. The last time the power went out it didn't come back on till 2 AM or so. So we headed over to Starbucks where they have their A/C BLASTING and it feels wonderful. We even got our drinks for free...woohoooo. I like when that happens. Anyways when we got home around 10:30 pm the power was back on. Nice! Fast forward to 2:30 AM when I wake up in a SAUNA....only to realize the power had gone out again. I don't know what time it came back on, all I know is it scared the crap outta me when the fans started blowing all loud.

Softball, BBQ's and the Beach!!

I love weekends that even though busy are SO relaxing, this weekend was one of those.

Friday night the guys had their 6th softball game. Going into Friday night they were 4-1. Their only loss came in the first game they played. Which probably had a lot of us worried that they weren't going to be very good. Ha! Turns out they are pretty darn good. I think really the biggest reasons they lost that game are that they had never played together and they were short guys that night. For example they only had 3 outfielders as opposed to 4 that night, which in softball can make for some hard times out there. Since then though the guys have been solid. Friday's game was against a team who was also really good and they were undefeated going into the game. We changed that though and the guys came out on top with a 16-5 victory. Fun times! The funny thing is that they are the only team in the league that ever has anyone out watching their games. Kinda funny. This week there was like 20 of us. All the wives and some other people from our church. After the game Chris and I went over to Troy and Amy's along with Becca and Travis. We just hung out for a while and Amy made some REALLY YUMMY brownies. Unfortunately Chris couldn't have any cause they had almonds in them but YUM!!

Saturday we pretty much just spent around the house. We had stuff to do here and some work to do in the yard. So that is what we did, Chris decided to head to the store around 5 to get some meat to BBQ. And he came home with some super yummy steak tips, marinated them in a teriyaki marinade and grilled em up. They were super good! After dinner I ended up taking a Benadryl cause my allergies were totally bothering me. So of course it was not long before I was OUT COLD leaving Chris to watch You've Got Mail (it was on TV) by himself. I finally woke up around 11pm and we took the dog out to play in the yard to expend some of her energy. Then we had some ice cream and wine and watched The Pacifier. Which actually turned out to be a pretty cute movie. It was funny.

This morning (Sunday) Chris had to get up super early and was outta here by 6:45 to go take care of a couple of things at a Starbucks not far from us. It was not his on call weekend but Pasha was out with kidney stones so the guys just shared the calls. Not sure what time he was home at but I was up around 9 getting ready. Amazingly we were on time for church this morning. Ha! Usually we are at least 5 or 10 minutes late. After church a bunch of us went out to Salisbury Beach way up North almost in Maine. It was gorgeous out, about 85 degrees, perfect day to spend at the beach. And of course the nice breeze the ocean offers makes it that much better. It was a great day of just hanging out, chatting, reading and relaxing. Once everyone decided to set up the volleyball net Amy and I took our seats on the side to be the cheerleaders. Or something like that, I don't think we actually watched, but it was fun anyways! Ha! I think we were there from like 2pm till 7 this evening. It was a great day. We all headed to the Dairy Queen down the road on the way home. I was so excited to be able to get my Sundae in a little Seattle Mariners hat! :)

So there ya have it, it was a busy yet very relaxing weekend. Now we are home, the dog has been walked. Chris is falling asleep in front of the tv and here I am blogging and enjoying some wine, winding down and getting ready to head to bed. :)

Hope everyone else had a great weekend and I will be sure to visit all of your blogs over my coffee in the morning!!

I forgot....

In Seattle our friends Jen and Ryan had people over for a BBQ EVERY Saturday night for Hockey Night in Canada. It was awesome, good friends, good beer and hockey all night long. It was great, we are definitely going to miss that weekly gathering this year. Although we have found we have friends out here who are very much hockey fans as well. The BAD thing about it is they are all from Texas and LOVE the Dallas Stars. That's a tough one for me....Stars/Oilers just don't mesh together. ha! So I guess it will make for some interesting BBQ's at our place this year:)

It's Official....GAME ON!!!! WOOOHOOOOOOO

Today is a very very very very very HAPPY day in our house. Finally we can begin the countdown to the beginning of the 2005-2006 NHL season. Finally the lockout is OFFICALLY over! I don't know where all of you plan on being on October 5th, but I know where I will be. In front of my TV taking in ALL the hockey I can. Cause I have missed it. It has been like torture for us with having the whole season cancelled last year. While I have grown to LOVE baseball since I have been with Chris it is just not the same. I am Canadian and hockey is where it's at. While Chris and I are very devoted to the teams that we love...Chris the Colorado Avalanche and me the Edmonton Oilers, we are very much excited to be in a city where there is a team and we can actually go to games. Although you can be sure we will be planning some road trips to go see the Avs and the Oilers.

I am also excited about a lot of the rule changes and such. Most importantly I am glad they are getting rid of the TIE. Now all games will have a 5 minute overtime, if that doesn't break the tie there will be a shootout. I think shootouts are fun to watch. I am also very happy they are getting rid of the red line to open up the game and let these guys to what they do best. I can't wait, I think it's going to be a better game with all these changes. I think there will be a lot more scoring and therefore making the games more exciting.

Oh and you can be sure that Chris and I will be ordering NHL Center Ice on our satellite as soon as dish network has it set to order!

So for all of you who are hockey fans....GAME ON!!!

Coupon Girl!

You should see my wife. About a week ago, she decided (as she called it, an "executive decision") to get the Boston Globe delivered daily to our house. Which is fine with me, I really don't mind either way. I am basically your typical guy when it comes to the newspaper--I mainly just read the sports section. But anyways, all of the sudden she turned into this quasi-super hero: Coupon Girl! ( I could go another way with this and call her a 60-year old smoker lady with 15 cats that only has coupons to look forward to in her life......but let's stick with the super hero theme. Mainly so she doesn't kill me.)

Coupon Girl's favorite day is obviously Sunday, as that is the day the Globe has all the new weekly coupons! She spends a couple of hours clipping and giggling at the deals she finds. It is quite cute to see it in person. So now, whenever we go anywhere, she's gotta grab her coupons--just in case. Because hey--you just never know when they will come in handy. Ladies Speed Stick deodorant 2-for-1? Heck yeah! Plastic hangers 8-for-$1? Score! Even stuff we wouldn't normally buy, like say for instance, a pack of 16 crayons....if we got a coupon for it, it's ours! (They were 2-for-$1.) Now this is not to say that coupons are stupid, because they do save you money, and sometimes they can be very useful on important items. Now, my wife--oops, sorry--Coupon Girl is not there yet, but she's getting closer to having a little envelope for them and having them all organized, but for now, they are just all piled up, waiting to be used.

I hope that she does eventually get them organized, and we use them wisely. I am starting to realize that food coupons are the most valuable, especially when Coupon Girl doesn't want to cook and I am designated as the food-picker-upper. Subway 2-for-1 tonite, honey? Money.

Fix 'n Mix Your Own Damn Frosty

Chris and I have lived in Boston for 9 1/2 months now and for some strange reason I have never really been downtown. I don't know why, a lot of might be the fact that Chris works down there and he doesn't really want to come home and then go downtown. Lately we have been going to different Starbucks everytime we go and we go often. So last night we decided to go to one right downtown in Faneuil Hall. It was kinda cool, I have never been down there, but it was night and I would like to really go back in the daytime. Anyways check out the website its pretty cool.

So we were on the way home from downtown and we decided we wanted some ice cream, the only thing that was open was the Wendy's drive through. I decided I wanted to try one of those Fix ’n Mix Frosty things. So I order the butterfinger one and when we get up to the window she hands me this cup thingie and a package of crumbled butterfinger bits. Well what the heck, I didn't see anywhere on the menu where it said "YOU Fix 'n Mix Your Own Frosty". And nevermind the fact that there isn't enough room in this stupid little cup they give you to Fix 'n Mix anything. Needless to say I was irritated and had to wait till I got home so I could mix this stupid thing in a bowl. And by that time it was all melted...booooooo!!!!

You Know Its a Bad Game of Scrabble When......

The best word you can come up with is Fart and then later in the game and an S to it to make it Farts! LOL.

We had a pretty laid back weekend, I really can't remember what we did on Friday or Saturday. Sunday we went to church and then went over to Amy and Troy's so Chris could help Troy and some other guys move a couch. Afterwards we hung out and we went to Chili's with Amy and Troy and went back to their place to watch Zoolander and play scrabble. It was the suckiest game of Scrabble EVER. I mean really, it was BAD. Amy and I were spelling such high scoring words as NUT and GUM. My best word of the night was FARTS! LOL! It was pathetic...

Evey's Greatest Brain Farts #4

For those of you who missed #5, please scroll down and find the post titled "Evey's Greatest Brain Farts."

It's true, I have my moments, more often than I would like sometimes. It's really not that I am stupid. It's more the fact that sometimes I just don't think things through all the way before I open my big mouth.

So again Chris was testing me on US geography and this time he was asking me state capitals. I am cruising along naming capitals when he asks me the capital of Arizona. I don't know why but I drew a total blank. I was so stumped, for the life of me I could not think of it. So he starts throwing out all sorts of hints and still I am not picking up on it. Finally I start asking him "what does it start with" and stuff. So he tells me P. I pause to think and I ask him what the next letter is and he says H. Anyways this continued all the way to the letter I. Yes that's right he had spelled out to me P-H-O-E-N-I.......and STILL I could NOT for the life of me tell him what the capital of Arizona was. The thing is, I NEW it, but I think by that point I was obviously delirious and over thinking it way to much that I just couldn't get it. Finally Chris was like "PHOENIX, ITS FREAKING PHOENIX" LOL. Immediately I could not believe my complete state of retardation and then just laughed and laughed for a long time till my stomach hurt.

Stay tuned for the top 3 coming soon.

Date Night

Chris and I decided to go out on a 'date' tonight. So when he got home this evening from work we got ready, locked the dog up in her kennel and we were off. First was a stop at the grocery store for some drinks and snacks for the movie. Then we headed over to this little pizza joint not far from our house. We had never been there and wanted to try it. They had a special on for 2 slices and a pop for 3 bucks so we decided to go for it. It was actually really good. I have found that I would rather have a huge slice from places like that than Pizza Hut or anything. I just think they are so much better. We ate in the car on the way over to the movie theatre and we went and saw War of the Worlds. And yes I know Tom Cruise has been making a huge ass of himself all over the media lately, but he is still a great actor and War of the Worlds was just another example of that. The movie itself was awesome, I am so glad we decided to go see it. Definitely one that needed to be seen in theatres. I always like to see what previews there are as well, we saw a preview tonight for King Kong directed by Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings). It looks awesome, I can't wait.

So that was that, when we got home we took Belle for her walk and now we are watching the baseball game. We would have hit up Starbucks on the way home but they were closed dangit. I wish we had some decaf at home, I would love a cup of joe right now but we only have regular and I would be up ALL night if I drank some at this hour. Alright...That is all!!
When I woke up today I did not excpect to turn my TV and see Breaking News on most channels about the bombings in London this morning. My heart breaks for all those people. I will never understand why people have to do things like this, it makes me sick to my stomach. I sure hope and pray friends and relatives that I have over there are ok. Lets all remember these people and their families in our prayers today.

YUCK!

I saw my first cockroach the other night. Up close and personal....EWWWW! I had only ever seen them in pictures and on TV and stuff. Anyways we had friends over and we were in and out the house, it flew in then. We later found it dead behind our door. I almost vomited, I don't do bugs well and I really don't do big ass nasty ones well. YUCK! Monday night when I went to bed I kept waking up thinking it was going to be lurking near by. LOL. I am so paranoid!

Busy Busy Weekend

We had a wonderful weekend, it was full and very busy but it was great.

Saturday we went to a wedding, it was beautiful. Amy and Troy are friends from church and we were so happy we were able to share their wedding day with them. The ceremony was wonderful, everyone looked gorgeous...None more so than the bride and groom of course. It was nice, after the ceremony we headed outside for some food and sunshine. I did have a few pics to post but for some reason they aren't on the disc, so I need to go back to the photo place and have them redo it.

After we left the wedding Chris had a store he had to go to since he was on call this weekend. After that we headed home to let the dog out and decided to go out and have a nice dinner just the two of us. We went to this restaurant called The Chateau. Chris had steak and I had some yummy chicken. It was so good!

Sunday was kinda a busy day with Chris being on call, but later in the evening we went and had dinner with our friends Jen and Ryan who were visiting this weekend from Seattle. We went to a place in Cambridge called Christophers. It also was very good.

Monday I spent a lot of time out in the yard and Chris had a couple of calls he had to go out on. Jen and Ryan came over for a BBQ, Chris and Ryan bbq'd some steak tips and they were so freaking good. We had a good time, steak, beer and friends. What more do you need. LOL. We decided not to go into the city for the fireworks cause there was just TOO MANY PEOPLE! So we decided to watch them here and afterwards we took Jen and Ryan back to where they were staying.

All in all it was a great weekend, hope all of you had great weekends as well!!

Over Heard at Kohls Tonight

We were shopping tonight at Kohls and they have a lot of really great sales going on right now. This was overheard as we were walking past some cute old ladies...

Cute Old Lady # 1 - "Look at these prices"

Cute Old Lady # 2 - "Yeah, they are pretty good"

Cute Old Lady # 1 - "You can't beat that with a stick"

...For all the Canucks out there Kohls is a department store.

Evey's Greatest Brain Farts

Chris feels it's important that once a week I should post about some of my ultimate blonde moments (lets remember I have brown hair), so I said why the heck not. So we will start things off with my top 5 since he has known me. I would love to tell you them all right now but he won't let me. So you will just have to keep coming back to find them all out. But for now here is number 5.....

Chris and I were driving one time and to pass the time we were thinking of stupid games to play. So he decided to quiz me to see how many American states I could name off the top of my head. I decided the easiest way to rattle them off would be alphabetically. So away I went naming states as I got to the letter U I was stumped. Not stumped in the sense I knew there was one but stumped in the sense I was convinced there was no state that started with the letter U. After a significant amount of time had passed and I still was convinced there was no such thing, Chris finally said to me "UTAH honey UTAH." immediately I was like "OH YEAH, DUUUUUUUH!"

Kerry Park

Recently some friends of ours back in Seattle got engaged, coincidently they got engaged at the same place we did....Kerry Park in Seattle. I really suggest checking that page out and looking at the panoramic views on there, its beautiful. I read a great write up on it this is what it said...

"Folks come from far and near to enjoy the panoramic view from this tidy little park nestled on the south slope of Queen Anne. Joggers, sweethearts, newcomers, natives. Tour buses make regular stops, and local and national news teams use the lovely vista as a broadcast backdrop. Years ago (1927), Mr. and Mrs. Albert Sperry Kerry, Sr. donated the block after the city of Seattle promised they would never build on or in front of the property. On a clear day, neighbors pause and picnic to watch the sunrise or sunset in glorious Technicolor. You can relax on the wooden benches while Seattle's morning sky transforms from dark to pink to blue, or watch the evening sun reverse this palate.

When you glance southeast, the Space Needle dominates the fabulous cityscape, Mount Rainier just to the right. Out in Puget Sound, vibrant orange lifts resemble giant preying mantises awaiting their next shipment of containers. A wide-angle scan exposes Elliot Bay with its ferry and freighter traffic, sailboats dotting the afternoon and weekend horizon. Straight across the Bay, West Seattle and historic Alki Beach await, and a tad more to the right, Bainbridge Island. At twilight, on warm summer evenings, the prisms of sunset bounce off downtown glass buildings, beaming the shafts back to the Queen Anne neighborhood. There's no playground, but people never tire of this quiet, but stunning vantage"

Mosquito's and Softball

I know I know, let me have it. I am the biggest blogging slacker around. I have no good excuse, so you will just have to forgive me anyways;)

In keeping with my feelings that mosquito's SUCK, last night the guys had a softball game. Once we show up at the field we come to the realization that at this particular field is where ALL of the mosquito's in Massachusetts live. ALL OF THEM!! I kid you not, it was horrid. Amy and I made a treck to the grocery store for some OFF and a citronella candle. They did work yes, but I feared all night that it was too late, the damage was already done. I awoke this morning to an itch on my side, thinking to myself damn things got me good right here. So I go into the bathroom only to realize that they got me good alright. Apparently they were really drilling for blood on my left side and must have been sending out signals for everyone else to come and join in. You see, I actually have a path of about 10 bites all in a row very close to one another. Never mind the ones I have everywhere else. I hate them I tell you.

Despite the west nile virus going around the guys had another good game last night. I think the final score was like 47 - 12 for us, or something like that. Fun times! The next game is at the same field, which now that we have all been there before I am sure that we will all be prepared for the mosquito convention that goes on there.

That's all for today folks, it is beautiful out today so I think we may head out with the dog to the water somewhere. Hope every one has a wonderful weekend.

Yummy Treats In My Mailbox

A few weeks ago I was chatting with Lori and was telling her how I missed Ketchup Chips and Smarties.....for my American friends I am not talking about what you all know as Smarties. Anyways Lori is SO wonderful she sent me a package with 2 bags of ketchup chips, 3 big bags of smarties (regular, peanut, and peanut butter), and some coffee crisps. What a gem she is, although I need to control myself cause I love them all so much. I hate we don't sell them here. Anyways THANK YOU a million times over Lori. Your treats are on the way soon!! Love you!

Talk About Foot in Mouth Disease

Ever say something and immediately wish a giant hole would open up in the earth and swallow you up? Well I am sure you have, sometimes I have those moments much more often than I would like. But no moment to this day was worse than this....

About 3 years ago or so when I was living in Vancouver I got a job at a Fire Restoration Company that I had initially heard about through a friends sister. This sister of my friend had this boyfriend that I had only seen once or twice. I came to the conclusion that he wasn't very attractive, and me and my friend wondered what her sister saw in him. Anyways after I started working at this new job I was talking with one of the girls, it turns out she knew my friend and her sister. She then proceeded to ask me if I knew of this girls boyfriend. Instead of answering with a simple "yes" I answered with this "oh yes, I know who he is. He is very ugly and his nose is HUGE, I am not sure what on earth she sees in him" And her response was this " yeah, I know him too, I am dating his brother.....His TWIN brother, they are IDENTICAL!" If there was ever a moment I wanted to be sucked into deep hole it was then. I didn't know what to say or do so I just mustered up the best smile I could, said sorry and walked away.

Moral of the story....Don't make fun of peoples boyfriends! LOL

Oh the Irony.....

Chris and I went out to Walmart on Sunday night and bought a new fan. It worked fine that night, but by Monday morning it was shutting its self off whenever it turned all the way to the right. So we had to exchange it. We pack it all up and head back down to Walmart to get another only to find that that kind is all sold out. So, we end up getting one of those tower fan things for the same price. We bring it home, Chris puts it together and we turn it on and well I guess it worked. But those things don't work well, unless of course your sitting directly in front of it. So yep you guessed it, it was back to Walmart to return it. No exchange this time, just took our money and ran.

We headed on over to Target, and wouldn't you know it they were sold out completely. We tried Home Depot and they were sold out. And all we were thinking is how the heck we were going to sleep last night with no fan. SO FINALLY we went to Walgreens, for my Canadian friends...Walgreens is a drug store.....To our surprise they actually did have fans, not the biggest selection, but at that point we didn't care. So bought a fan convinced it wouldn't really do the job, but at the same time thankful that we had found something.

As we are driving home and nearing our street we start to notice that everything looks really really dark. And well wouldn't you know it THE POWER WAS OUT!!!! How funny, after we spent all that time looking for a new fan and we didn't even have any power to run it. LOL. And for those of you who thought you would have wanted this heat wave we have been having your crazy. The extreme heat is what caused the power outages in the first place. It really has been insane. It is supposed to start cooling down this week, thank the Lord, I like to breathe. LOL Oh the irony of it all!!!

The good news was that they did have the power back on around 1am, so we didn't have a totally uncomfortable night with no fan. And to our surprise the fan we bought worked like a gem:)

Good Mail Is the Best Mail

I got a wonderful card (homemade card) from someone very very special today. It was so nice to get a nice surprise like that in the mail. Its also nice to be reminded sometimes that your friendship means as much to someone as theirs does to you. So thank you Lori for putting such a big smile on my face today. I love you very much!

Melting.....

We are melting, it is hot. Gross hot, not good hot. The heat isn't so much the problem, it's the humidity we seem to be having right now. Which for around here is odd from what we are hearing. The humidity is over 90% right now. YUCK YUCK YUCK is all I have to say. It only like 80 something, but with the humidity so high it feels like at least 100. Wrong I tell you!

So I'd like to rant about something for a minute. I'm not sure if you'll know who I am talking about, but there are these commercials we have featuring "hard, sexy abs" by John Basedow. Now first of all, it cuts to John. You'd think he'd be this super-hot hottie that has this great body....oh, how poorly mistaken you are.

He's not very attractive, and he's got two things that are really crampin' his style: one, his head is way, way too big for his body. We're talking "orange on a toothpick" type stuff here. "It's like Sputnik--quite spherical, but pointy in parts. He'll cry himself to sleep tonite on his gargantuan pillow." (If you don't follow, please see the movie So I Married an Axe Murderer. Classic Mike Myers.)

Secondly, on top of that ginormous noggin, his hair....hmmm....how to describe his hair. Well, you'd think he'd have a newer style--something spikey, nicely cut. Nope, instead he comes to the plate with this mess that looks like he is trying to go for "Game Show Host" hair, but he doesn't quite know how to get it right. Now I do have to give him credit--he does have nice abs. But seriously, he looks like a geek, the guy nobody wants to hang out with. The guy who wears those sweaters--you know, those sweaters.

The other annoying thing about his commercials is that when it cuts to him showing off his six pack, he leans back, just so the viewer can get the full effect, and he hooks the thumb of one of his hands on the waist of his blue spandex to pull it down a little bit (an artists rendering)--just enough so that he makes us believe below his waist is as firm and toned as above. First of all, I just don't need to see that. Second of all, anything you got going down there buddy, needs to stay down there. Quite unfortunately, you don't leave much to the imagination with them nasty spandex anyways.

I feel better now. I am sorry you had to hear that.

As some of you may know I am a huge music lover. I am one of those people who pretty much likes a little of everything...ok maybe not death metal, but you get the idea. I like a lot of Christian bands, I always have. I think maybe a lot of it comes from my brother who when I was growing up was into all the Christian bands, so from as far back as I can remember I was listening to it. Back then it was bands like Petra, Whitecross, Rez, Stryper, Vengeance Rising, Holy Soldier, Bride and Guardian. Some of which are still great bands that I still enjoy listening to.

These days the bands that are taking over the Christian music scene are Switchfoot, Relient K, 12 Stones, Kutless, Pillar, Everyday Sunday, Jars of Clay, Thousand Foot Crutch, Further Seems Forever, Delirious, Newsboys, Sanctus Real, Tree 63 and Third Day.

I think the awesome thing about Christian music these days is that it's breaking way more into the mainstream music scene. People are listening to a lot of this stuff and are not even realizing it is Christian. That is definitely awesome in my eyes.

One thing that drives me nuts is some people's attitude towards Christian music, they assume because it is Christian that it is boring. Yet I guarantee that you can find the equivalent to any band these days in the Christian music industry.

I have been listening to my Kutless:Sea of Faces CD a lot this week, it's a great CD. One of my favorite songs on it is a song called All of The Words. My favorite line in the song is.... "With all of the words in all of my life that could never explain and never describe
All of my love, which is nothing to hide so I lift up my hands and I worship You"

Anyways just some thoughts in my head this morning. There really are some great Christian bands out there, check em out!!

Farckle anyone??

I know I have been a huge slacker lately with blogging, but in my defense the weather has finally been beautiful and I have been spending so much time outside in the garden and such.

We had a wonderful relaxing weekend. Chris was on call but it was a slow weekend and he only ended up with a few service calls.

This afternoon we went out to the beach with friends from church, Amy & Troy and Travis & Becca. It was beautiful out, and I LOVE the ocean. After we left the beach we headed on back to Amy's and bbq'ed some Brats and stuff. THEN it happened, Chris and I were officially introduced to the world of "Farckle".. What is it you ask?? Well for starters its just darn fun to say...go on, try it. F-A-R-C-K-L-E.......SEE it's fun;) Anyways it a dice game and it was fun. I recommend finding out how to play it and doing so:)

YAY for the Floyd Clan

I am so excited that Susan (my sister in law) and my brother have finally created a blog. YAY! So please venture over to their blog and welcome them to the world of blogging. I don't want her to think I lured her into this crazy world of blogging for nothing;) And the fun thing is that now you can enjoy hearing about my nephews and seeing pics of them as much as I do:)

Halfway There...

Weeding weeding and more weeding!! We spent about 4 hours out in the yard late afternoon and evening getting things ready. We have our onions, beets, carrots and radish planted. We have the dirt all prepared and ready to go for the peppers, beans, pumpkins and cucumbers. So tomorrow we will get out there and get the rest of the seeds in the ground and the flowers all planted the way I want them. Working in the garden is sure a great workout, although my back is sure hurting tonight.

We will try and get some pictures taken and posted this weekend.

I think Chris and I are off to take Belle for her walk, she needs to burn off some energy.

Working in the Yard.....Finally!

After weeks of frustrating weather, especially on the weekends Chris and I were able to spend much of today out in the yard. We cleaned things up, weeded and got the dirt ready for all my seeds. So tomorrow we will get out there and get the seeds all planted and we should be good to go. I am so excited about the veggies we will have from our garden instead of spending a fortune at the store. I hate that what seems to be good for you is always the most expensive.

We have three different places we will be planting our veggies. Along one side of our fence we will be planting our beans, then in the other section will be our carrots, beets, onions, peppers and radishes. Then on the hill on the side of the yard we will be planting our pumpkins and our cucumbers. I love it. After all that is said and done I just need to get my flowers all planted where I want them and we will be good to go. I will be sure to take pics and post them as soon as I get the chance.

On a side note....This is posted so late cause Chris and I stay up pretty late these days watching the Mariner's games. And I have to say holy crap we just won our third game in a row. We have been sucking so bad this year, lets hope that maybe, just maybe this is the start of a much needed turn around.

Keeping With the 7-11 Theme...

It reminded me of the classic joke by Steven Wright:

"I wanted a late-night snack once so I went to a 7-11, but when I showed up, the manager was just locking the doors. Confused, I asked, "Aren't you guys open 24 hours?"

"Yeah, but not in a row."

Ha.
So when it's after midnight and you want a slurpee...where would you go? That's right, 7-11!! The place that never lets you down, the place that day or night is open to satisfy your need for slurpees. WELL, let me tell you on Saturday night the 7-11 I went to at 12:15am DID NOT satisfy that need. Can you believe it, it was CLOSED.......7-11 at midnight on a Saturday. What is the world coming too??

Wouldn't You Know It....

The sun came out today, and just as I got ready to head out and work in the garden and get the rest of my stuff planted it starts raining. Then the thunder and lightning started, go figure...a freaking thunderstorm. Is there going to be an end to this madness....grrrrr!!
